How thyroid supplements can be useful for weight loss

Research has shown that there’s a correlation between weight, metabolism, and thyroid diseases itself. This is because the thyroid hormone is responsible for regulating the metabolism in all mammals- which also includes humans.

Therefore, people who suffer from thyroid-related diseases, such as thyroid dysfunction or hypothyroid, may experience weight gain while they’re being treated for their respective diseases. This may be a further cause for frustration because, as a society, we value looking slim and fit more than anything else. However, as it so happens, there’s a solution to this problem

Thyroid supplements

Thyroid patients can use thyroid supplements to help maintain or keep the weight off while they’re being treated. In this article, we’re going to explore the benefits of the thyroid supplements, but we do that, here’s a word of caution.

Thyroid Supplements Are for Thyroid Patients Only!

While thyroid supplements may seem very interesting to people without the conditions, you mustn’t use them for weight loss unless you suffer from a thyroid-related disease. Remember that the thyroid supplement is a synthetic hormone created by pharmacists to help those who suffer from an excess or deficient of the thyroid hormone. They’re prescription pills whose intake depends from person to person. Therefore, you must talk to your doctor about taking this supplement before buying it as it can have negative effects on your health if you abuse this pill.

Why Thyroid Supplements Help Weight Loss

To understand why thyroid supplements, help weight loss, you will have to understand the thyroid gland itself. The gland is just below your Adams’s apple. It possesses two lobes which are connected in the middle and although many people don’t know much about it, it is called the master of your metabolism.

This is because it produces the thyroid hormone, which helps your metabolism. However, if it provides too much of the thyroid hormone then you will suffer from hyperthyroid. People suffering from hyperthyroid because their metabolism is too ‘hot.’ This means that they’re able to digest the foods they consume too quickly, which causes them to have increased diets, thus making them gain weight when they should be losing it. Thyroid pills are targeted to these people so that they can lose weight.

The thyroid supplement helps to slow down the thyroid hormone. There is also a condition called hypothyroid, where the thyroid gland produces very little thyroid hormone, which leads to a weight loss. For such cases, people are prescribed thyroid pills which help them gain. Since this article focuses on weight loss, we’re going to focus on the previous case- that of hyperthyroid- only.

Symptoms of Hyperthyroidism

As we’ve mentioned so far, hyperthyroid disease, or hyperthyroidism, causes your metabolism to burn through food that you eat, leaving you feeling hungry. This causes you to eat more food than you normally would, leading to weight gain. Other common symptoms of hyperthyroidism include restlessness, anxiety, tremors, agitation, increased heart rate, excessive sweating, and intolerance to heat. If you experience these issues, then you should call a doctor.

Benefits of Thyroid Supplements

Once you have been diagnosed with hyperthyroidism, you may turn to supplements. Hyperthyroid isn’t just about taking medicines. Some patients even turn to vitamins and other nutrients, or thyroid supplements. These supplements have their own set of benefits. Thyroid supplements consist of the full range of proteins, vitamins, and minerals which can aid

These supplements contain an adequate supply of iodine. Iodine helps in making thyroid hormones. Apart from this, they even provide vitamin B. Vitamin is an essential component that must be consumed by people who have hyperthyroid. Vitamin B interacts with thyroid functions which help them regulate thyroid hormones as well. Taking Vitamin B is essential for a person suffering from hyperthyroidism. This boosts the Vitamin B complex that is there. Patients often lack vitamin B in their diets, and so these supplements help them compensate for the lack of it that is there. It even boosts the immune system and aids in healthy body metabolism. It speeds up the metabolism process.

Thyroid supplements even consist of zinc. Zinc converts the elements T4 into T3 which helps improve the function of the thyroid hormone, and it even helps monitor the hormonal levels, like Vitamin B. The supplements also consist of Vitamin D. People with hyperthyroid diseases often lack Vitamin D in their body and this exacerbates the disease to a great extent. The supplements help improve this. The supplements even contain Tyrosine which optimizes the T4 levels that are there in the body. Conjugated Linoleic acid is often recommended for people with thyroid disease who are struggling with trying to lose weight. There is some evidence that these supplements may contribute to modest weight loss by mobilizing fat stores in the body. CLA causes gas and digestive upsets in the body which can help lose weight. However, CLA is to be taken only when the doctor recommends you do so.

Side effects of Thyroid Supplements:

As much as thyroid supplements are suitable for the body and in healing diseases like hyperthyroid, they have a few disadvantages in them too.

Firstly, the components in the supplements are the same you will find in a balanced diet. When people start consuming these supplements, they don’t monitor what they are eating. The diet you consume is always way more beneficial than these supplements, especially since you can monitor the consumption of these components through your diet, better than the thyroid supplements.

Also, consuming too much of one component through a thyroid supplement can make matters worse. Some components tend to hurt the body when they are absorbed through supplements. For instance, too much consumption of iodine can increase the hormonal growth of thyroid in the body, which can make matters worse.
