5 Doctor-Recommended Ways For Recovery After Playing Sports

Tips for Sports TrainingOverdoing yourself while playing a sport can cause a longer recovery time than you’re normally used to. During this recovery time, it can be painful to move your body or do other activities that you normally would. Waiting days, or sometimes weeks for the pain to subside isn’t convenient for some athletes who frequently need to attend practices and games.

Making a speedy recovery after overdoing yourself in a sport is crucial to every athlete in any sport. Read on to find five doctor-recommended ways to recover after pushing your body to its limits while playing a sport.

Eat More Protein

Adding extra protein to your diet can have a ton of beneficial effects on your body while you’re recovering from overdoing it in sports. Giving your body extra protein will provide it with the right nutrients to repair tears in your muscles that you got from playing sports. The extra protein helps to repair these muscles so they come back stronger than they were before. Eating protein immediately after playing a sport or before going to bed will help to increase muscle recovery time tremendously.

Get More Sleep

A good night’s rest will play a significant role in recovering after pushing yourself to the limit playing sports and being active. Sleep deprivation can create a wide range of negative effects on the amount of time it takes to recover. It’s because sleep recovers more than just your muscles, it also plays a significant role in the recovery of your organs. It’s important you have optimal sleeping conditions to make sure you get a good night’s rest and recover as quickly as possible. Getting eight hours of sleep in a comfy bed and having an early bedtime are crucial in recovering quickly after playing a sport. Some professional athletes are known to have smart mattresses so they can be sure to reduce their recovery time and have a great night’s rest.

Eat More Healthy Foods

Eating healthy foods can reduce healing time and have many beneficial impacts on your body as you recover from sports. If you’re eating junk food it will take your body a much longer time to recover because these sugars and fatty foods won’t provide it with the right nutrients to heal itself. Many doctors and sources agree that eating healthy foods and drinking fluids are both great ways to reduce pain after playing a sport and increase stamina for the next time your body is active.

Your body will feel better and operate better if it’s fed the most nutritious foods and well hydrated. Some of the best food categories to add to your diet are vegetables, fruits, food high in protein, and vitamin supplements. Drinking a lot of water is the best way to stay hydrated.

Get a Massage

Getting a sports massage from a professional is a great way to reduce soreness and pain after exercising or playing a sport. Soreness in your muscles can last a long time after playing a sport, it’s caused by the tightening and ripping of the muscles while working out. Getting a massage will help to loosen up these sore muscles and speed up the recovery process. It also causes the muscles to relax which will reduce pain and soreness. Make sure you get the message from a professional, getting one from someone who doesn’t know what they’re doing could cause your muscles to hurt worse and slow down the time it takes to recover after playing a sport.

Reduce Stress

The last way to help recover after playing a sport is to reduce the amount of stress on the mind and body. According to Men’s Health magazine, to recover after playing a sport, taking a break from the sport and from stressful situations in your life will help to really increase recovery time. Reducing stress will increase athletic performance and improve your quality of life as you recover. Having to deal with stress while recovering can lead to a less than optimal environment for your body to heal. Also, physical and emotional stress are similar to each other and can impact each other and interfere in the recovery process.
