Anxiety and DepressionAnxiety is something many people struggle with daily. It is thought that over 40 million people over the age of 18 in the US alone struggle with anxiety but only 36% of people actually receive treatment. While taking medication for anxiety isn’t for everyone, that doesn’t mean you should struggle alone when it comes to managing this debilitating condition.

How can you manage stress levels yourself to help you combat your worries and reduce anxiety?

Self Medicate.

Many adults find that self-medicating can help them to reduce anxiety and face situations they wouldn’t normally be able to cope with. Harvest HOC is closer than you think to help you find options for help in controlling your anxiety.

Eat Well

eating well-balanced meals regularly will help you to reduce any anxiety issues you may have due to irregular eating habits, eating too much sugar or drinking too much caffeine. A well-balanced diet can help to regulate your blood sugar levels and keep your body working properly removing one less thing to increase your anxiety.

Breathing Techniques

Practising breathing techniques that will calm you down when your anxiety is building can help you to stay in control and mindful of the situation. Contrary to popular belief, anxiety attacks are rarely loud attention-grabbing scenes and many people can still go about their daily activities while having an anxiety attack.

Distraction Methods

Finding a distraction method to take your mind off your increased anxiety levels when out and about will help you to remain focussed and deal with the issue. Be it listening to music, apps or podcasts to distract your mind. Chewing gum to give you another outlet for your frustration. A notebook, journal or art pad to get your thoughts out of your head or focussing on something that is happening. Trial and error will help you to find what works best for you.

Take a Time Out

Removing yourself from the situation gives you anxiety and allowing yourself time to process the situation and get your feeling in check will help you to remain calmer. Give yourself breathing space and even if it is just a minute to step back and assess what is going on, this can be all you need to help you to refocus and reduce your anxiety.

Talk It Through

Letting others know how you feel and when your anxiety levels are rising can allow them time to work out how to best manage the situation with you and work through what the issue is. Once they know, they can provide support in challenging situations and be a source of support to help you put plans in place to reduce how anxious you get in certain situations.

Go Easy On Yourself

Once you accept certain things and situations are out of your control, you can let go some of the worries about things that may happen. It is easier said than done but trying to release worry about things out of your control can work with you in getting your anxiety levels down. As will accepting that you will feel this way from time to time. Instead of admonishing yourself, you need to find more productive ways to process your emotions. This could be talking to a trusted friend, a relative of putting habits in place to help you deal with overwhelming feelings and circumstances.
