6 Reasons Why You Should Start Exercising Today

best home exercisesEveryone knows that regularly exercising is good for you, but that doesn’t necessarily mean that everyone exercises regularly. If you want to start working out, but you need one more motivational push, this article is for you. Below are a few of the best reasons to start working out as soon as possible. If you are currently completely inactive, make sure to consult your doctor before starting any sort of workout regimen.

1. It Makes You More Productive

When you exercise, your brain releases the same chemicals that it uses to encourage focus and concentration, which means that you can be more productive even once you’ve left the gym. It can also help improve your memory, so you don’t end up forgetting about that important meeting you have to prep for — plus, you’ll seem more prepared when you have all of your material stored in your mind.

In addition, exercise releases endorphins, which make you happier. If you are happier, the odds are that you will be more productive because you won’t be stressed about other unrelated issues outside of your work. No matter if you’re working on something for your career or something for your personal life, exercising regularly can help make you more productive.

2. It Helps Reduce Stress

When you are stressed, doing some sort of a workout can really help you to center yourself and feel more relaxed. When you are working out, you can put all of your energy into the one task that you are doing, and since you are putting all of your energy into it you can’t waste energy worrying about things that you can’t change. If you’re focusing on what you’re doing physically, it can be easier to turn off your worries for a little while and get some distance from the problems you’re facing.

Once you finish your workout and come back to your problem, you may find that it is not as big of a deal as you thought it was, or you may have a solution that you couldn’t reach before because you were so wrapped up in your stress.

If you have anxiety and not just average stress, regular exercises can still help you. Oftentimes, anxious thoughts are not necessarily rational, so finding a good distraction can help stop anxiety before it gets worse. In addition, the endorphins released from exercise can help you feel happier and less anxious. Make sure to talk to a therapist or your doctor if your anxiety feels unmanageable or overwhelming.

3. You Can Do It Together

If you and your partner or friends struggle to find time to spend together, you can make plans to go for a run or to the gym together. If you’re part of the 90% of people who marry before the age of 50, you can make plans to regularly exercise together. Not only will it give you time to talk and do something good for both of you, but it has also been shown that regular exercise improves your sex life.

4. Helps You Lose Weight

The classic positive that many people think of when they think of exercising regularly is weight loss. Weight loss can be achieved through a combination of exercise and diet, so if you continue to eat unhealthy foods, exercise can only help you to a certain extent.

5. It Boosts Your Immune System

If you’re part of the 75% of workers that don’t think their office or place of work is clean enough, you may be exposed to many more germs than you are comfortable with every day. Exercise improves how efficiently your body functions, which means that all of the systems of your body work better when you exercise regularly. For example, if you’re exercising regularly, your body is able to more efficiently oxygenate your blood, so your body doesn’t have to spend as much energy to do that task. It also gives you more energy and helps your sleep, so you are able to recover more effectively from your day to day life. All of these things help improve your immune system and strengthen your body’s ability to fight against any disease or infection that you may encounter.

6. It Improves Your Overall Health

If you’re part of the 8.5% of Americans that do not have health insurance, your best bet will be to improve your overall health to prevent any major illnesses. Exercising regularly helps your body work the way it is meant to, as mentioned in the last reason. Boosting your immune system is not the only perk of regular exercise, though. It also reduces the risk and symptoms of many chronic illnesses, such as:

  • Blood Pressure Issues. Regular exercise lowers your blood pressure. Chronic high blood pressure, or chronic hypertension, is the most common form of heart disease. Exercising helps reduce the plaque in your arteries, which is what mainly causes this form of heart disease.
  • Type Two Diabetes. Type two diabetes is a form of diabetes that develops when you are an adult. When you suffer from type two diabetes, you are resistant to the insulin that your body produces. The cause of type two diabetes is not entirely nailed down by researchers, but inactivity is considered a possible factor. Though it is partially genetic, working out can help you avoid the disease.
  • Chronic Pain. Although it may seem counterintuitive to exercise if you are in pain, that is essentially what physical therapy is. Make sure that if you are experiencing chronic pain you consult a doctor and a physical therapist so that you can get the proper workout regiment to not injure yourself further. Building muscle that takes the pressure off of your chronic injury can help reduce the pain. For example, if you have patellar tendonitis, strengthening and stretching the muscles of your leg will take the pressure off of your knee so that you do not exacerbate the issues.

Make sure that you consult a doctor if you suffer from any of these problems to ensure that exercise is the right choice for you.

Exercise has many benefits, and if you start exercising now, you can start reaping the benefits of your work sooner. Remember that even if you start and you aren’t anywhere near your goals, each day you will be a little bit closer to where you want to be. Also, if you’re looking to recover from injury, check out Physiotherapy in Burlington.
