Germany is becoming incredibly well known for being a vegan mecca. Berlin may be the capital of vegan cuisine but Munich isn’t too far behind. Being the gateway to Bavaria, Munich is vastly different from it’s vegan sister city to the north. However it has a coolness all its own from a beautiful city park and important historic sites to yes, awesome vegan eats!
Just some fun travel tips outside of the usual historical sites. If you’re walking through Munich, be sure to check out the surfers of the Eisbach River, located in Munich’s central park. The park itself is lovely and during the warm months, bring your swimsuit to play in the rover and it’s little cascades. Trek up to the bridge and watch city surfers hang ten in this super cool hidden gem.
Also, if you are a fan of the original Willy Wonka film and the Neverending Story, you can tour the filming locations and even ride Falcor at Bavaria FilmStadt! One of my fave things to do in Munich! Besides eat of course, so let’s get going!
I absolutely love Max Pett! I popped in for brunch one day and left with a giant smile (and giant belly). I had to try breakfast and lunch, just in case I didn’t have time to come back! I adored their big American breakfast complete with tofu scramble, pancakes and even corn flakes! And I couldn’t resist having vegan weinerschnitzel and topping off my meal with a slice of opera cake! Did I mention I love Max Pett?
Every time I’m in Germany, I pop into Veganz for some essentials. And by essentials I mean vegan snacks and lots of vegan European cheese! This german wide vegan grocery store is so awesome and guess what? I hear they will be opening stores in the US soon!
For a cocktail and some yummy vegan eats, Bodhi is a great choice! The menu is innovative, the vibe is fun and they even host vegan cooking classes. I treated myself to some barley risotto, cheesecake and my fave, a Moscow mule!
Since I was going to be road tripping through Bavaria, I made a pitstop at Vegan Deli (formerly known as Yam Vegan Deli) for some treats. I fell in love with their healthy bowls and wide variety of baked goods. Definitely a great spot for a healthy meal and a sweet treat!
Normally, I start my travel days at a local coffee shop, sippin’ on a soy or almond milk latte and using the free wifi. But one Munich morning, I checked out Tushita Teehaus. A fully vegan teahouse with one of the yummiest selections of vegan, gluten free baked goods, this place breeds serenity and happiness. A welcomed change when on a tight travel schedule!
Lastly but not leastly, Prinz Myshkin is one of the longest standing vegetarian restaurants in Munich. It’s chic and the food is well thought out as far as flavor combos and options. With it’s world food menu and lots of vegan options, Prinz is a wonderful place for groups to enjoy and relax.
That’s a wrap on Munich BUT there is lots more Bavaria to come! Stay tuned!!
