The 4 Top Benefits of Hot Tub Therapy

Hot tub therapy is just as easy and enjoyable as it sounds. Not only are hot tubs relaxing, but there are many benefits that hot tub therapy can provide. Exhale and relax as your aches, pains, and worries flow away.

Be sure to get your swimsuit ready. You’ll want to hop in the hot tub by the time you’ve finished this article.

Let’s dive into the four unique benefits of hot tub therapy below:

1. Relief from Joint Pain and Stiffness

Hot tubs aren’t just great for unwinding after a long day; they’re also excellent for aching joints. Whether you have a chronic condition or a simple sprain, you can treat painful, stiff joints with hot tub therapy.

The Arthritis Foundation noted that “ Water Works Wonders on Pain,” especially for chronic conditions, due to water releasing added pressure that gravity puts on joints.

Warm water also stimulates blood flow and encourages tendons and ligaments surrounding the joints to decompress. So, painlessly stretch your limbs and unwind with a relaxing soak.

2. Ease of Muscle Pain and Tightness

If you’ve ever treated a strained muscle with a warm compress, then you already know how warmth can alleviate sore and tense muscles.

According to John Hopkins Medicine, “Ice Packs vs. Warm Compresses for Pain,” works excellent for muscle aches because it boosts blood flow and supports muscle relaxation.

Thanks to their all-encompassing heat, hot tubs can be more than twice as efficient than warm compresses. A hot soak can apply warmth to every inch of your body that’s submerged, allowing muscle alleviation, while a heated compress will only affect a comparatively small area.

3. Increased Circulation

Healthy blood flow can have numerous positive effects. By carrying more nutrients and oxygen to the body’s cells, good circulation can support healing, promote proper organ function,  and reduce strain on the heart.

So, you’ll be pleased to know that a relaxing hot tub session can also aid and promote blood flow.

A study published in the Journal of Physiology, in 2016, confirmed that regular hot water immersion has multiple cardiovascular perks. The study, “Passive heat therapy improves endothelial function, arterial stiffness and blood pressure in sedentary humans,” found that eight weeks of repeated hot water immersion therapy:

  • Lowered blood pressure

  • Reduced arterial stiffness

  • Improved endothelial function

4. A Great Night’s Sleep

It turns out that hot tubs can improve your spirits and help you stay carefree long after you’ve dried off. Notably, soaking in a hot tub before going to sleep can support better, more restful sleep.

The Journal of Physiological Anthropology and Applied Human Sciences published a Japanese study titled, “Effects of bathing and hot footbath on sleep in winter.” Warm water immersion, whether a hot foot bath or a full-body soak, can help participants fall asleep faster and sleep more soundly, the study concluded.

Regularly immersing yourself in warm water can significantly improve your cardiovascular health. If you have a preexisting heart condition, be sure to check with your doctor before you start soaking frequently, and always follow common-sense hot tub safety guidelines.

In Conclusion

The bottom line is, hot tub therapy can have a profoundly positive influence on your health. Given that hot tubs are enjoyable and relaxing, there’s no reason not to use them whenever you can. Improve your sleep, lower your blood pressure, and gain relief from sore and tired muscles with a regular soak.

I’m impressed, I must say. Seldom do I come across a blog that’s both educative and interesting, and without a doubt, you have hit the nail on the head. The problem is an issue that not enough folks are speaking intelligently about. Now i’m very happy I stumbled across this during my hunt for something regarding this.
