How to Pass the Wasted Time While Cooking

plastic-chicken-shape-60-minute-kitchen-cook-cooking-timer-white-red_3252477One of the many things that people cite as the main reason why they don’t cook as often as they would like to is the time factor. After all, cooking a hearty meal, especially if it’s a couple of courses and for a few people, can be quite time consuming when you take the food prep and actual cook time itself into consideration.

Aside from Christmas or a Sunday roast, not many of us afford to spend too much time cooking. However there are ways to pass the time whilst cooking to ensure not a minute is wasted, leaving you with great efficiency and a tasty meal to boot. Here are just a few ways you could spend this time:

1 Squeeze in a quick exercise routine

It’s proven that short bursts of exercise conducted regularly can actually be more effective than spending hours in the gym. So if you’re one of those people who lacks the motivation or time to visit the gym why not squeeze in some quick exercises whilst making dinner? You don’t even need to leave the kitchen to do most of these provided you have a little space. Food tins or juice containers make great weights and as long as there’s room to stand you should be able to do some squat reps or at least jog on the spot for a few minutes. Use your smartphone as a stopwatch or even download an app to record your progress.

2 Catch up on TV

Thanks to the advances in mobile technology and the amount of apps we have readily available to us you can now watch catch up TV on your tablet or mobile phone provided you have internet and are within the transmission zone for your chosen TV show. Again you don’t even have to leave the kitchen here, so you can catch up on your favourite shows whilst still keeping an eye on that simmering pot.

3 Play a game

If you don’t have long, you should consider playing a quick game or two whilst cooking. A short game of bingo for instance can be easily played on your mobile phone or tablet these days and can be the perfect way to fill the time when waiting on something like an egg to boil. There are plenty of sites which offer the chance to play mobile bingo here, other kind of card game there and many more.

4 Create a Pinterest board of recipes

Why not get ready for some more cooking by creating a Pinterest board and collating new and exciting recipes from other users online? Really easy and quick to do, all you need to have is access to the Pinterest app which is free to download on smartphones and tablets. From here just search for dishes you’re interested in and pin them to your own board for later.

These are just a couple of ways you can use the spare time when cooking. Whether you’re busy and trying to squeeze a bit more into your day, or if you just fancy chilling out with a game, there are plenty of things you can do without leaving the kitchen.
