perfect smileFar too many people are under the impression that oral health simply doesn’t matter. This couldn’t be further from the truth, however, as it’s vital that you can make an effort to maintain a healthy mouth for the benefit of your health and wellbeing. Luckily, making oral health a priority needn’t be as difficult as you might expect, as there are a few key areas in which you can focus your efforts to make sure your mouth is as clean and comfortable as possible. So, if you would like to find out more, then read on to uncover some of the best tips and tricks that you can make the most of to start taking your oral health seriously today!

Don’t Miss Your Dental Appointment

At least every six months, you should pay a visit to a dentist for a regular check-up and dental treatment. However, some people only see a dentist when they have dental emergencies, such as a knocked-out tooth or a painful toothache.

Make your oral health a priority by adhering to the recommended frequency of dental visits by respected dental organisations and health agencies. It’s not advisable to skip your dental check-ups. If you do, you’re more likely to have oral health complications, such as gingivitis, which is caused by neglected tooth decay or gum problems. Other dental problems you might experience include tooth loss, tooth stains, and oral cancer.

Find a dentist in Currambine or one in your area. During a dental emergency, your dentist will already have a record of your dental history and offer the best dental services for you, such as a thorough assessment and preventive treatment.

Having a family dentist to go to whenever you need a tooth extraction, preventive cleaning, or other dental treatment is better than hopping from one dental health specialist to another. You can choose one specialising in cosmetic dentistry if you’re planning to undergo dental implant, teeth whitening, or any other cosmetic dental treatments.

Say No To Sugar

Sugar is one of the worst ingredients available in the modern day. It provides no health benefits or selling points whatsoever, and in fact does nothing but cause damage to your system in several different ways. Sugar can actually cause your teeth to decay, encouraging the formation of cavities and many more painful ailments that can have a massive impact on your quality of life. Sugar mixes with the bacteria in your saliva to form plaque which then breaks down the hard outer layer that protects your tooth encouraging a whole load of pain and sensitivity. Saying no to sugar is one of the best things that you can do to take good care of your teeth, but it’s an addictive substance which you can easily form a dependence on making it hard to let go. Start by cutting out your usual sweet treats such as chocolate and cake, replacing them with low or no sugar options such as nuts or plain yogurt. If you drink anything like fruit juice, soda or ice tea then this should be be next thing to go, as high sugar drinks will do nothing but cause further damage to your mouth. It can be confusing, as you may even find yourself asking questions like, ‘Is seltzer bad for your teeth?’, but a little common sense goes a long way. Check the back of packets for ingredients lists, and identify how many grams of sugar is in each serving.

Don’t Just Brush

Simply brushing your teeth twice a day isn’t enough to maintain ultimate oral health, as you need to carry out several extra steps every now and then to ensure you can provide your mouth with a complete clean. For example, making the most of dental floss at least once a day (perhaps before bed) will get rid of any excess food that’s gotten stuck in between your teeth throughout the day! Simply using a toothbrush would mean you aren’t able to reach between your teeth, so only flossing can help. Finding a suitable mouthwash for your unique needs will also be of real benefit, as you can treat issues like gum sensitivity and inflammation with ease. Additionally, regular visits to the dental clinic will help bring you optimal oral health. Don’t stop yourself from getting a healthy smile with the Dentist in Encino.

Making your oral health a priority has never been so simple when you take the time to utilise the steps described above.
