The opinion of the public when it comes to marijuana has changed so much that many people are scrambling to find the best marijuana stocks so that they can create a better financial future for themselves. There are a lot of reasons why the public opinion towards marijuana has become so positive and it continues to become more accepted as time goes on and it becomes even more widely legalized than it already is today.
Marijuana’s Many Uses
Marijuana seems to be everywhere now and you can do much more than just smoke it. Different forms of the plant are used for different things including some interesting recipes. These recipes include a lot more types of food than your traditional pot brownies and you can now find marijuana being used as an ingredient in some very high-end restaurants around the country as well as in some delicious desserts and other snacks from dispensaries.
Legalized Weed?
As of early 2020, eleven states have already legalized marijuana for use recreationally while even more have decriminalized it or made it legal for medical purposes. This is a far cry different from the situation around three decades ago when the concept of legalized weed just seemed like a pipe dream that could never be achieved. In addition to some states legalizing marijuana on different levels, Canada and other countries throughout the world have legalized it on a national level. While there is no saying when it will become legal on a federal level in the United States, many believe that it could be fairly soon.
Differing Opinions
The vast majority of people in the United States support marijuana being legal for at least medical use and only about eight percent of those who were surveyed believed that it should remain completely illegal despite the medical benefits that studies have shown it has. While there was a clear line in opinion drawn between the Republican and Democratic parties in the past, this line appears to be lifting with even the majority of Republicans reporting that they were pro legalizing marijuana. This is big news for the future of the plant and the many different derivatives that can be made from it.
The group of people that have shown the least support for the legalization of marijuana are those who were born in the generation that came before Baby Boomers. Sixty-four percent of those asked in the American Trends Panel survey from Pew Research Center were against the legalization of marijuana in any way. One of the interesting trends generational that have also been noted is the fact that opinions towards legalization among millennials appear to be about even when compared across Democratic and Republican lines at 78% and 71%, respectively.
Looking at Marijuana More Favorably
Some of the big reasons why so many people are looking at marijuana more favorably are the medical effects that research is showing that it has. While it was once touted as a gateway drug, research is showing that it may be an effective way to treat addiction to harder substances like heroin. This is especially important in an age where fentanyl is being found in street drugs throughout the United States which has caused skyrocketing overdose rates.
Getting Informed About Marijuana
The benefits that many are reporting when it comes to illnesses like autoimmune disorders and other chronic ailments are quite remarkable which makes the idea of legalization even harder to ignore. As things change and people become more informed about the potential of the plant, it is being seen less as a harmful drug and more of a helpful medication that can help people live a much higher quality of life. You can, as a part of legalization in most states, grow your own cannabis. So you can know from seed to watering a marijuana plant to the final buds know it’s good.
Even if and when marijuana becomes legal federally, there will still be those who support the idea of prohibition for many different purposes. While some have just fallen for the “reefer madness” hype that has been so prevalent for generations, others support the continued criminalization of the substance for more nefarious purposes that are usually related to the bottom line of businesses. Despite these detractors, public opinion continues to get more positive and federal legalization appears to potentially be just over the horizon. This will have a big impact on individuals and organizations everywhere in the United States.
