winter health fitnessWe all know how tough winter can be getting in workouts. The weather is not on your side and it certainly takes a toll on your mood, immune system, and even on the way you exercise. It’s that time of the year where you find it easier to skip your training regime. Hitting snooze on your alarm to stay under the warm blankets becomes the norm when you may have enthusiastically jumped out of bed during the summer. So, how do you outwit this sort of fitness slump? Here are a few tips that will get you back into your regular workout routine in no time.

  1. Stay On Top Of Your Winter Diet. Diet is the first place to start! After all, your fitness starts in your kitchen and not in the gym. It’s quite typical that during the winter, you might find yourself ordering processed foods and drinking hearty beers. Everyone seems to do it, right? There is nothing wrong with a few indulges, but don’t make it a habit. Instead, try to eat a balanced, healthy diet throughout the winter months. We’re talking about healthy fats and proteins as well as delicious seasonal fruits and vegetables like squashes, pumpkins, and apples. And it’s always beneficial to cut back on things like alcohol and caffeine. You may also want to explore some supplements that will energize your winter. Some of the most recommended supplements to look at are Vitamin D, Vitamin C, Zinc and Vitamin B among others. That said, ensure that you consult a healthcare professional before adding any supplements to your diet.
  2. Go For Winter Gear. Winter is one of those times of the year when you’re constantly fighting with the weather and temperature, so you must find a way to keep warm while exercising. This is crucial, not just for the sake of comfort but to also protect your body. The catch here is to wear several layers of gear with the layers closest to your body being thin and made of materials that absorb moisture from your skin. The outer layers of your gear should be able to shield you from snow, rain, and wind. If you’re traveling to visit family and friends, pack your workout attire and equipment to avoid putting on those extra pounds while you’re away.
  3. Find A Workout Buddy. You’re more likely to win the battle against a winter slump if you having someone to help you sail through it. Think of it this way, if you train with someone else, whether it’s a friend, partner, or a personal trainer, then you’re bound to show more commitment to your workout plans. Yes, your wingman will certainly be there to give you a nudge — not to mention that it’s also fun to work out if you’re not alone!
  4. Set Higher Targets, Take It Slow. We also advise that you set some targets if you want to advance at your workout over time. Many times we become stuck with failed targets, and if you are one of those sailing on this boat, then it’s high time you knocked it off. Set new but very realistic targets that involves numbers and target accomplishments. Once you have the goals, remember to take things slowly, especially if you’re on a very tight schedule. You’re better off setting goals involving a series of exercises over the day rather than single bulky ones. You can also try taking some testosterone booster supplements for a little extra kick before you start your workouts.
  5. Use Indoor Options. If you really can’t stand the cold weather, there are plenty of indoor activities that can keep you fit both at home or at a local gym. Check out classes like pilates, yoga, tai chi, spinning, and zumba. You can also try climbing, bouldering, or swimming if the gym isn’t your thing. If you want to work out at home, there are plenty of apps that offer workout routines that use home furniture and surfaces as resistance.
