Throughout the centuries, psychologists and spiritual leaders have talked about spiritual enlightenment – when the truest version of yourself is realised. Some psychologists including Abraham Maslow referred to this process as ‘the highest level of needs’, while Carl Jung called it ‘individuation’. No matter how it is called, spiritual awakening is a long process that forms a big part of the overall spiritual maturity of an individual. Some people choose to pass this journey on their own by reading, doing research, and reflecting on their lifestyle. Others choose to pass this journey with friends or seek guidance in churches. Most churches nowadays have an adult group curriculum that is specially organized for adults to help them reach spiritual maturity. The best part is that in this way people have the opportunity to share their experiences and grow together.
Confusion and Fear
One of the signs of a spiritual awakening, perhaps one of many in the search for enlightenment, is confusion and fear – you may be questioning the choices you’ve made in your life and what you’ve always known will be turned on its head, even your choice of friends and partner. The fears and questions experienced during this time are a normal part of the spiritual awakening process and you must listen to your fears and make changes to elevate your life. That doesn’t mean you have to get a divorce, radically change your life or career, but incorporate more of that which nourishes your soul.
Courage
With confusion and fear comes courage – the ability to make the profound changes necessary in your life. Through spiritual awakening, you’re coming to know your true self; the self with more courage, confidence and readiness to try new things. Others may scoff at these signs as nothing more than a mid-life crisis or bump in the road, but the confidence and courage gives you more. The awakening gives you the confidence to be bold to succeed.
Vivid Dreaming
More often your life is in a state of flux during the spiritual awakening process, at least at the beginning while you’re coming to understand your state. You’ll have more intense dreams than ever regarding your life, of the changes you need to make or the visions you have for the future. These dreams are windows into the subconscious where amazing changes are at work. Make sure to take note of the messages you’re receiving through these dreams, because they could be essential. They are a sign of something much more; a spiritual awakening. Even enlightenment.
Pain
Spiritual awakening does not occur without discomfort to the mind as well as the body. Whether it’s pain the neck, base of the skull, or lower back, you will know there is change at work, which seems particularly strange in the situation. Nonetheless, the body is adjusting to the experience.
Spiritual awakening is often a confusing process filled with pain, but it comes with a greater enlightenment; your true self. The awakened self is a more complete version and a truer representation of who you are as a spiritual being. It can help to have some guidance in this journey, and Soul Transcendence help many with the process.
