Bored with your same old fitness regime? Doing an activity that’s both fun and physical is great way to stay motivated to work and get in shape. After all, bringing your waistline to a level that’s sustainable requires you to enjoy the exercise you’re engaging in. What’s the point of sweating it out in the gym if you hate exercising indoors? And is it the best idea to bring an elliptical at home when the thought of waking up and dragging yourself on a machine every day sounds unappealing?
The answer is no. And that’s not even a problem as there are plenty of creative ways to stay fit that extend beyond what is perceived as trendy and traditional. Here are 4 creative ideas you can exploit to get in shape in 2015:
Hula-hooping
The 1950s craze, hula-hooping, is reemerging as a great cardio exercise to slim your buttocks, waist, hips, and other lower body muscles while toning your lower back and abdominal muscles. Hula-hooping can be outdoors or indoors, individually or in a group class setting.
To start this activity, you need a large hoop that is about waist high. The hoops sold for children in toy stores are too light and small. For exercise, hold the hoop at the waist, and keep the legs hip or –shoulder width apart. Place one foot in the front of the other and bend the knees, and spin the hoop around the waist, using side to side or back and forth movements.
Bubble sports
Bubble sports include safe activities that can be carried out inside a bubble for burning calories. For example, bubble paddling is one of the sports that can be enjoyed as a family activity. Another available option is bubble soccer, which is fun to play or watch, and good exercise as well. It’s a little bit different than the soccer you’ve come to appreciate and know. It is more on the unpredictable and adventurous side.
As with conventional football, football where players are inside bubbles is played in an indoor gym or on a grass field of usual dimensions, with two goals, and a referee. Time is kept according to regulations, and games are usually shortened by exhaustion, design, or inability of the players convulsed with laughter to play the game anymore.
Rock climbing (indoors)
This is an anaerobic exercise that builds balance and strength and burns up to 400 calories per 30 minutes. It is like performing yoga on the wall as individuals have to shift their weight constantly to build muscle and core strength.
Also, you use your legs to push your body weight up the wall and arms to pull yourself, so in the process, you hit muscles that you usually don’t in a conventional gym workout. Beginners should perform this activity with bouldering and top roping, before getting into challenging climbs.
Fencing
You’re seen the fencing scene in James Bond movies and you wish you get to wear the white clothes and battle it out. The good news? You can take up fencing as an exercise activity. Sign up for a fencing class, where, you learn to anticipate your challenger’s moves and react to it.
Fencing is a great mental exercise which burns a lot of calories as it involves intensive footwork and arm. It is also a great way to improve agility and speed. You can search local listings to find a fencing class in your area.
