Clean Living – Dealing With the Health Effects of Dust

eco cleaningNo matter how much you clean, chances are you’ll find dust around your home. Dust is often a pesky intruder in all our homes and one that is no fun to deal with. In fact, dust in the home can contain microscopic solids or liquid particles that are small enough to get deep into our lungs when inhaled. Dust particles can also irritate the nose, throat and eyes, especially in young children and the elderly. Dust, when exposed to the skin, can even turn skin rashy and itchy – something none of us want to experience. Getting rid of dust in your home doesn’t have to be a mammoth task. In today’s article, we have a look at some simple ways in which you can eliminate dust from your home and improve your health.

Get The Hoover Out

One of the easiest and most effective ways of eliminating dust from your home is to stick to a vacuuming routine. We highly recommend purchasing a high-quality vacuum cleaner that will be able to suck up even the toughest dirt and debris from your carpets and home flooring. Vacuuming at least 2-3 times a week is optimal for ensuring your home remains dust free, and emptying out the bag is just as important to ensure that your vacuum cleaner is not blowing old dust out and into your home environment. Also you can hire some local carpet cleaning company to clean your carpets every six month.

Run An Air Purifier

Investing in a quality air purifier is another fantastic way to keep dust levels low in your home. The best air purifiers in the market are designed to remove dust utilising High-Efficiency Particulate Air (HEPA) filters. Air purifiers are a fantastic addition to any home and can remove up to 99.9% of airborne dust particles, allowing you to control dust inside your home. Air purifiers are also one of the best ways to avoid triggering asthma attacks, should you or anyone in your home suffer from the condition.

Change Bedding Once A Week

Changing your bedding once a week can seem like a bit of a hassle, but is so important in ensuring that your home is kept dust-free. The bed is where you spend 8 hours a day, which is why ensuring that your bedding is dust-free is so important. Dust mites love to dwell on sheets, mattresses and pillows, which is why it is essential that you refresh your bedding at least once a week. Purchasing an allergen-proof mattress cover is also a fantastic step to take to protect your home and health from dust mites that may cause your allergies to flare up or trigger asthma.

Get Rid of Rugs and Carpets

Whilst carpeting often looks great, they are prone to being high maintenance and the perfect surface for dust to settle into. Getting rid of rugs and carpets around your home is the best option for anyone looking to eliminate dust from your home. If you are attached to your carpet or rug and cannot part ways from it, we highly recommend vacuuming daily or investing in a vacuum cleaner which has a HEPA filter which prevents dust from being reintroduced into the air. Ideally, those who suffer from severe allergies should stick to tiled, laminate or hardwood floor to prevent the accumulation of dust in the home.

Throw Out The Feather Duster

Whilst your grandmother may have used feather dusters to dust surfaces in the home, we highly recommend throwing yours out and replacing it with damp, microfibre cloths which are far superior in their cleaning abilities. Unlike feather dusters which just cause existing dust to settle elsewhere in the home, a moist microfibre cloth will be able to hold on to dust and give your surfaces a good clean without redistributing dust to other parts of the home. Microfibre cloths are also washable, offering you an environmentally friendly option to disposable wipes or towelettes.

Remove Clutter

Clutter is one of the best ways to accumulate dust in your home. It is important that you don’t let clothes or items pile up around your house as they turn into ideal surfaces for dust to settle on. Whether you have piles of CDs, magazines or old newspapers hanging around, getting rid of them or recycling them is the best option for anyone looking to eliminate dust from your home. Cleaning around them won’t get rid of all the dust that has settled on them, so you need to change your dust collector cartridges in Canada and avoid cluttering the home too much to avoid a dusty situation on your hands.

We hope that this article has given you some insight into some simple ways in which you can eliminate dust from your home for the sake of not just cleanliness, but also your health and wellbeing.

Don’t Forget the Windows

Never forget the windows! They’re one of the sources of dust around the house, especially when they’re constantly open. So while it’s good to get some fresh air inside the house, dust, pollen, dirt, and other air impurities can get through open windows.

Check on the windows, and clean them regularly especially during windy days, since the chances of getting dust during those times are higher. Additionally, purchase high-quality window cleaning tools, and learn how to clean them properly, starting from top to bottom to ensure the dust doesn’t stick or remain on any part of the window.
