A Few Terrific Reasons Busy Moms Practice Self-Care

self esteemOne of the biggest reasons busy moms fail to take care of themselves is that they are too busy taking care of everyone else.

As a mom, it’s often difficult to pay attention to your own health because you have your hands full taking care of your family. Perhaps you find it difficult because of your hectic work schedule. Or maybe because of the volume of household chores.

Still, it’s absolutely necessary that you focus on your own health and wellness.

The Safest Way to Arrange COVID-19 Testing

It’s often difficult to decide what to do if someone in your family is coming down with an illness. It might be something as serious as the coronavirus. It might also just be a cold or the flu.

A safe option is to stay at home and use an at-home COVID test kit rather than risking the sick person’s health through travel. These test kits are remarkably accurate at testing for the SARS-CoV-2 infection. They work whether a person is symptomatic or asymptomatic.

Use a lower nasal swab to collect a sample and ship it to a laboratory. Within one to two days after the laboratory has received your sample, you will receive secure digital results.

If you need any help with collecting a sample, talk to a telehealth consultant. They will guide you on the steps to take.

Design a Healthy Meal Plan

If you don’t plan your meals ahead of time, you are likely to just eat whatever you can. Some of your choices may be healthy, but not all of them are likely to be.

If you’re at home, you might grab something from the refrigerator or pantry.

If you’re in town, you might stop off at a fast-food restaurant or a deli.

Here are some steps to take:

1. Educate yourself on nutrition

Eating healthy is not intuitive. It’s something that is well worth taking the time to learn.

Many of the things we assume are nutritious may not be, and we may have unwittingly accepted somebody else’s opinion on what is healthy or come across some misleading food advertising.

Although nutrition is a complex subject, there are many readily available sources of information. For instance, you can attend online seminars offered by nutritionists, watch YouTube videos on nutrition, and read books about it.

If you don’t have the time or patience to do this, see a nutritionist. They will help you decide on the best meal plan.

  1. Try out various meal plans

You are unlikely to figure out a healthy meal plan proven by science right away. You may need to try out various meal plans.

You may not like the taste of a certain food, discover that you have a food allergy, or learn that a highly recommended diet does not work for you.

Trial and error are necessary for you to find the right meal plan for you.

  1. Schedule your meals

You may have to work your meals into your schedule rather than taking time out to eat. For instance, you may find it more convenient to eat a healthy snack when your baby has a meal rather than wait for lunch or dinner which may be hours away.

Put Your Own Oxygen Mask On First

Take care of your health first. Do this even if you have to take care of little children or an elderly parent.

Think of the analogy of putting on your own oxygen mask in an airplane. The crew members always advise you to put on your own mask first in an emergency before taking care of anyone else. The logic is unassailable. If you don’t get enough oxygen first, you’ll be too disoriented to help anyone effectively.
