5 Points to Remember When Dealing with Depression

Anxiety and DepressionWhen suffering through your lowest point, it’s difficult to remember anything at all, let alone valuable advice which can help you through your struggles. It’s easy to dismiss good advice and sink into a well of blame, guilt and despair. Nevertheless, it’s important to remain strong and tell yourself the following points when you’re dealing with depression – remind yourself of them as often as you can.

You Are Never Too Young or Too Old to Suffer from Depression

Mental health issues do not discriminate. That means that anybody, of any background, gender or age, can struggle with depression.

If you are of a young age and feeling low, you shouldn’t dismiss your feelings and believe that you can’t have depression at a young age, because it simply isn’t true. In fact, as part of a mental health counselors job description, working with youth suffering from depression is an official category. This means that any professional is trained to deal with depression focusing on a specific age-range, and there is never any cut-off point for when you can suffer from this mental illness.

You Have Done Nothing Wrong

A huge part of depression is an overwhelming feeling of guilt. Especially if you have a good life in which you have a comfortable home and a secure job, it’s easy to feel guilty for feeling low or sad when you have a lot to be grateful for. However, it isn’t as simple as that; depression doesn’t materialize based on how good you have it in your life. Depression can exist no matter your lifestyle, whether you’re living in a mansion made of solid gold, or a tent pitched in a field.

It’s important to remember that feeling the way you do isn’t wrong, and that you have done nothing wrong by feeling depressed. Just as with any other natural illness like a cold or flu, you are not the cause of it, and you cannot be blamed for it.

You’re Not Alone

Depression leaves you feeling exiled, alone and as though you are suffering in silence. In your worst moments, it’s important to remember that you’re not alone, and that you can gain support from other people who have experienced depression.

With more and more awareness about mental health issues on the rise, more people are openly discussing their struggles with depression and other mental health illnesses, so always remind yourself that you’re not alone and that there are people who care.

You Don’t Have to Pretend That You’re Okay

Due to the stigma of mental illness, many people suffering from it feel pressured to act as though they are okay. This could be forcing a smile, responding in the affirmative if someone asks you if you’re alright, and dragging yourself out of bed to attend work when you feel less than yourself. It’s very common for people struggling with mental health issues to deny that they are having any problems, as they may see it as society expecting them to act normally.

However, in order to fully deal with your depression, you need to first acknowledge it. It’s important to be honest with those close to you like friends and family and tell them how you’re honestly feeling. Only then will they be able to support you through your difficult time.

Depression is difficult enough without having to hide it, too.

There Are Different Levels of Depression

Mental health issues materialize differently from person to person. It’s important to not compare yourself to another person suffering from depression, as their situation may be a lot more extreme than yours. This doesn’t mean, however, that a less extreme case of depression is less important.

It may be that you only feel depressed on certain days, whereas someone else may feel depressed every single day. You may be able to struggle through your daily routine, whereas another individual may find it impossible to even get out of bed.

You shouldn’t look at someone suffering from more severe mental health issues and tell yourself that you can’t be suffering from depression if your case isn’t as bad as another’s. You shouldn’t think that you can’t have depression if you don’t feel it every second of the day.

Understanding the level of your depression is the first step in dealing with it, and your case is unique to you and nobody else.

Should you be suffering from depression, be sure to reach out to loved ones, seek help and visit your doctor to begin your treatment.

I say without a bit of exaggeration that https://drmental.org/online-therapy-com-review is the best platform where you can get the best online therapy. The psychologists have a high level of experience and are qualified professionals. They solve various problems and all your personal problems remain private. The advantage of the site is that it includes not only communication with online psychologists, but also various trainings and exercises. This can be very helpful in working on yourself. Choose only quality resources and be healthy!
