fitness programsIn today’s modern world, it’s easy to get distracted by the comfort of convenience. Often times, this means choosing stagnant hobbies such as video games, binge-watching TV shows, and spending time in the comfort of your own home as opposed to engaging in physical activity.

Although these activities may be an acceptable way to spend your time every once in a while, they are not long-term solutions to promoting healthy habits. The best way to invest in your health is to engage in regular, fitness-oriented activities. Specifically, you can try daily walks, team sports such as baseball and hockey, or high-intensity interval training (HIIT) workouts to prioritize your fitness. All in all, in order to learn some tips and tricks that will help you invest in your health and stay physically fit, be sure to keep reading below.

Physical Activity Has Long-Term Benefits

When it comes to being physically active, the benefits can be endless. First and foremost, taking the time to invest in your health can help you feel better mentally. If you play a sport with friends, go for a run, or use physical therapy equipment at the gym, you are taking time to put energy into yourself. This means that you’re focusing your energy on positive activities, while simultaneously taking a break from time-consuming hobbies like watching TV. Looking ahead, this will not only help you feel better in the moment but will also lead to long-term positive effects for your body. Specifically, you can live longer and improve your mobility by participating in just 10 minutes of fitness each day. That said, if possible you should try and aim for thirty minutes of daily movement as recommended by health professionals and researchers.

Lastly, consider that the human body consists of more than 650 muscles! By engaging in daily activity on a regular basis you are more likely to protect your muscles and experience various benefits including but not limited to healthy weight loss, lower stress levels, and boosted energy.

Lack of Fitness Can Cause Major Problems

When it comes to physical activity, it is imperative that you commit to a daily physical routine as a lackluster (or worse, nonexistent) level of fitness can have long-term negative effects. For example, research performed by the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) suggests that you might experience energy imbalance, higher obesity rates, increased risk in developing certain medical conditions, and a higher likelihood of developing cancer as a result of limited physical activity. Further, these illnesses are only perpetuated by a lack of daily physical activity. This is important to keep in mind, as taking the time to invest just 30 minutes to one hour per day, can lead to a healthier life down the line. Now that you know the “why” for working out, keep reading to understand the “how” and find the activities that are right for you!

When in Doubt, Play Sports to Stay Fit

When it comes to physical activity, the process of getting started can be overwhelming. For beginners, the tricky part can be establishing a fitness routine. On the flip side, it can be difficult for committed athletes to incorporate a variety of activities into their standard fitness plan. In order to invest in your health long-term, consider trying a wide range of activities.

As previously mentioned, you could start by simply using physical therapy equipment at the gym. Namely, you could try lifting free weights or performing bodyweight exercises as opposed to using standard cardio machines. Or, if you’ve spent a fair amount of time working out in a gym, consider stepping outside to play a team sport. For example, try joining a softball or baseball league in your local city. This is a great sport for a number of reasons. First, baseball has a perfect balance of high-intensity training (sprinting from base to base) and agility (strategically catching the ball). Second, a team sport can help motivate you to stay committed to your fitness routine as you can’t just walk away in the middle of a workout! That said, it is important to note that certain sports are weather-specific and may not work with your intended workout routine. For example, baseball is normally played in warm weather as shaved bats don’t mix well with cold temperatures. As a result, the use of baseball bats is ill-advised in temperatures below 65 degrees. Despite this minor limit, involvement in team sports has far more positive benefits for your health so consider joining one today!

Fitness is for Everyone – Kids Included!

Physical activity knows no age limit and for that reason, don’t hesitate to involve your children and spread awareness about physical activity benefits! When it comes to fitness, some people suggest that it’s an adult-only issue. However, this is not the case. Kids may be active on a more regular basis (think “playtime” versus “working full-time”), but that doesn’t always equate to fitness. As mentioned above, fitness can take on many forms. Not only is it important to invest in your physicality but you also need to invest in your mental well-being. Further, it is important that you teach your children about these same issues early on, in an effort to instill good habits long-term. To assist with this process, there are numerous activities designed to help promote physical and mental health in children. For example, kids can participate in playgroups, team sports, or individual sports. In 2017, more than 11 million kids in the U.S. (nearly 11.6 million) participated in fishing. Fishing may not be a high-intensity sport like cross country running or tennis; however, it requires the person to be agile and focused. By encouraging your children to participate in an array of activities you can help promote a positive relationship with physical activity. At the end of the day, the most important thing is to get yourself (and your loved ones) outside. Outdoor activity can help get your body moving and allow you to reclaim your health!

If you found these tips helpful, then you are on the right track to understanding the various benefits of physical activity. Fitness is something that you can invest in now to help yourself in the future. By taking the time to learn the benefits of a healthy body now, you are thinking one step ahead. Further, fitness can take on many forms as you can work on physical and/or mental fitness. In order to take the steps that are right for you and your body, be sure to keep the aforementioned facts in mind as they will help live a healthier lifestyle. First, remember that some health benefits are long-term and although you may not see a change now, positive lifestyles lead to positive results. Second, a lack of activity can be detrimental long-term so get yourself physically involved! Third, if the gym isn’t for you, consider joining a team sport to get your body moving. Lastly, don’t forget to let your love for fitness trickle down to your kids. All in all, don’t be afraid to step outside and make changes to your fitness routine in order to lead a happier and more active lifestyle!
