Back PainWhen you suffer from medical conditions that cause chronic pain you may believe there are only a few options available for relief. Though your medical doctor may have prescribed a high dosage of painkillers, there are adverse effects that could result from prolonged use. That is why more individuals are looking to natural pain management alternatives like yoga, acupuncture, and hypnosis for relief. Below are a few natural methods to consider and the benefits of each.

Why You Should Look for Alternatives

When taken as prescribed or instructed on the label, painkillers can essentially reduce or eliminate the amount of pain you’re experiencing. However, those who use pills for pain relief frequently can develop a tolerance. This, in turn, results in the need or feeling that you require a larger dosage to get the same effects. Over time, this can lead to addiction and the need for treatment for addiction to painkillers. Because pain pills are so addicting and habit-forming, it is ideal to begin weaning yourself off the prescribe dosage and find other alternatives. This might include:

·        Getting a Massage – massage therapy can be good for everything from arthritis and joint pain to headaches, neck, and back pain. When done correctly, a massage increases the body’s endorphin and serotonin levels which are responsible for regulating mood and reducing pain.

·        Therapy – cognitive behavioral therapy is an ideal solution for helping you to change your mind about painkillers. Through a series of methods, a therapist can help you change the way you think about your aches and the need for pills which helps to reduce stress and eliminate many types of pain.

·        Acupuncture – great for migraines, chronic back pain, sciatica, and fibromyalgia, acupuncture is becoming an increasingly popular remedy for pain management. As tiny needles are inserted into various points of the body it helps to correct energy imbalances which have been known to reduce pain.

·        Yoga – Yoga works wonders for those dealing with migraines, arthritis, and lower back pain. Though the idea of twisting your body up into knots might not seem like a form of relief, many have found comfort in this form of exercise. Though there are no scientific studies to determine just how yoga and pain relief are connected, many would agree that the stress relieving attributes of the exercise are to blame. As you learn to reduce the stress you ultimately relieve pain.

·        Meditation – meditation is best for the reduction of chronic pain. The various breathing techniques and stances can help you to breathe through the pain.

·        Herbs and spices – there are things right in your own pantry that you can use to help cope with pain and discomfort. Some natural painkillers you may not have been aware of include willow bark, turmeric, and cloves. Add them to your meals, create spreads or herbal teas and enjoy these herbs and spices daily for continued pain relief.

When the pain gets unbearable, it can be easy to reach for the nearest pill bottle to rectify the problem. The only issue is there are side effects to using pain pills both on a short and long-term basis. You run the risk of ruining your digestive system, intestinal lining, and liver. Not to mention, there is an increased risk of becoming addicted. If you’re struggling with a lot of pain, the above-mentioned approaches to pain management should suffice. If you’re still having difficulties in a few days, a talk with your doctor about alternative options is ideal.
