How to Keep in Shape while Travelling

joggingTravel, who doesn’t love a trip abroad? Be it a weeklong business trip, a two-month honeymoon, a yearlong work sabbatical or even a long weekend away, travel broadens the mind and feeds the soul. All those local delicacies, long lunches and local tipples to try can certainly add to your enjoyment while you’re away. However, the number on the scales upon your return might not be so kind. Fret not! You don’t need access to a five-star gym and health spa to keep you in shape – although that would be nice – there are plenty of small changes and health and wellness hacks to ensure you don’t fall too hard off the wagon. Read on to find out how to keep in shape while travelling.

Big Breakfast

You’re on holiday, so relax and enjoy a big breakfast. That’s all well and good, but make sure that your plate includes all the essential food groups as opposed to just pastries and croissants. Choose green vegetables, clean protein and carbohydrates to fuel you on your travel adventures. Planning a longer stay? Consider getting your fitness meals delivered if you’re following a stricter diet plan and you use products from Muscle Up Meals. Make sure to indulge in a little of what you fancy – but keep it as a treat rather than a daily part of your diet.

Keep Hydrated

Not only is hydration super important for your skin and overall well-being, making sure you get enough water on board while traveling is vital for cell regrowth and muscle hydration. Being dehydrated due to exercise, or as a result of overindulging can result in bloating and weight gain if you reach for sugar-laden sodas and juices instead of fresh, filtered water. Be sure to keep a bottle to hand and make sure that you intersperse each alcoholic drink with a glass of water – you’ll be grateful when you wake up fresh faced and hangover free.

Make the Most of Your Surroundings

Even if you aren’t a hardcore athlete when you’re at home, there’s no excuse not to engage in some gentle exercise while you’re away on vacation. Love to relax and unwind? Why not browse online access a whole range of free and easy to follow Pilates and Yoga classes? Booked a week by the beach? Why not walk before breakfast, take the bus to the beach and make sure to join in with those nightly salsa classes! A nature lover at heart? Well what are you waiting for? Get those boots on and drag your entire holiday party outdoors for some free fun and fresh air, all while exercising too.

Keeping in shape while travelling doesn’t have to put a downer on your much-needed break. In fact, just making a few small changes is sure to make your trip even more memorable. If you do have access to that luxury pool however, then be sure to make a splash!
