Just up the coast from Rome, located in Tuscany, you’ll find a small harbor town named Porto Santo Stefano. A gorgeous mountain side town, complete with a restaurant lined bay that when lit up at night, is just magical.
As of late, it’s most well known for being the port that you can catch a ferry to the nearby Giglio Island, where the cruise ship, the Costa Concordia, met its untimely demise. As of now, the ship is being worked on to be permanently moved from the coast.
Also, overlooking Porto Santo Stefano, you’ll find a beautiful 17th century Spanish castle, the Fortezza Spagnola. Only 2 euros to enter, it’s a beautiful structure with even more beautiful views of the bay below.
Being a harbor town, vegetarians will be delighted with the fresh local seafood. And vegans, fear not, we’re still in Italy so pizza marinara, bruschettas and pastas are still available! Yum, Tuscan food!
A place that will make everyone happy is Lo Sfizio. Whether it’s the fresh catch for seafood lovers or a lovely plate of pasta pomodoro, Lo Sfizio is great.
For a meal with a view, try Ristorante Il Veliero. Out on the patio dine under the stars with the port below and enjoy some damn good pasta! They do an off menu primavera with seasonal veggies!
If you want to splurge, L’osteria Del Porto Le Chicche is the place. Open for brunch through late night, it’s gourmet and it’s delicious and the chef is super cool with accommodating special diets.
Honestly, any place in Porto Santo Stefano Italy is great for a snack, some wine and a view. How does it get any better than hangin’ out on the Tuscan coast!
