Herbs with Powerful Health Benefits

In the age of global pandemic, we’re facing numerous rumors and unproven remedy suggestions. Along with the rise of using cutting-edge medical technologies, there are also many superstitious theories for traditional means of curing COVID-19.

For example, there is an increasing trend in buying ventilators because of their usefulness in the age of coronavirus. On the other hand, many traditional societies use herbal remedies as a tea to improve their respiratory system and increase their resistance against the virus.

Although many of them have seriously been rejected by legit sources, there are still many traditional and herbal remedies that can really work in 2021. Whether you’re struggling with the new version of the coronavirus or facing a simple cold, these herbal remedies can work miracles.

You might be reluctant to use these methods instead of buying modern medicines and high-tech healthcare equipment. But we recommend using proven traditional means of curing along with modern remedies and technologies.

Here are 10 herbal and traditional remedies that are still working in 2021.

Echinacea

Echinacea, also known as coneflower, is a flowering plant and is really popular when it comes to herbal remedies.

It originates in North America where it has been used by Native Americans for a long time. It was used to treat numerous ailments such as different wounds, burns, toothaches, cold, sore throat, and upset stomach.

Almost every part of the plant can be used for medical purposes. Its leaves, petals, and roots are specifically popular among many people but the roots are considered to have the strongest effect.

This plan can be used in different ways including as a tea, a supplement, or even topically.

These days, Echinacea is still popular and mainly used for treating the common cold. However, science has not proved the effectiveness of such remedies. Many people also consume it to prevent the cold.

Ginseng

Ginseng is another plant that’s being used for medical purposes as a tea or dried powder. This plant has first been used in ancient China as a medicine to reduce inflammation. They believed that its roots would boost immunity, brain function, and increase energy.

Nowadays, numerous types of Ginseng exist, but the Asian and American types are way more popular than the others.

American Ginseng is considered to impact your relaxation, while Asian Ginseng is thought to be more stimulating.

Unfortunately, Ginseng is suffering from a lack of enough scientific evidence, although it has been used for centuries by millions of people. You can buy Ginseng at most health stores and also online shops.

Elderberry

Elderberry is another ancient herbal medicine that is usually made from the cooked fruit of a special plant: Sambucus nigra.

It is mainly used to relieve various pains such as headaches, nerve pain, and toothaches. It has also been used for colds, viral infections, and constipation.

Nowadays, many people consider it to be a remedy for symptoms related to the flu and common cold.

This traditional remedy is usually available as a syrup or lozenge, although there’s no standard dosage for it. As a result, some people prefer to make their own tea by cooking this plant. They usually add some other gradients like honey to make the tea more delicious.

The plant has shown some antioxidant, antimicrobial, and antiviral properties in recent studies but further research is needed to find more concrete evidence on its medical use.

Ginkgo biloba

Ginkgo biloba is another herbal medicine derived from the maidenhair tree. It’s also called simply ginkgo and is native to China.

Ginkgo has been used for thousands of years in China and is still a sought-after herbal supplement in the market.

The seeds and leaves of Ginko are used to make teas and tinctures by Chinese people, but modern applications use only its leaves. It is said that its seeds are mildly toxic and therefore, should be eaten meticulously.

Some people also like eating its raw fruit and even toasted seeds. It is believed that Ginkgo can treat many ailments, such as heart disease, mental difficulties, dementia, and even sexual dysfunction.

Turmeric

Turmeric is also known as Curcuma longa is a sought-after herb in the world and belongs to the ginger family.

It has been used for thousands of years for both cooking and medicine as it has a great smell and can be used in many types of food

It has shown a great potential for anti-inflammatory applications and therefore, can be considered to be a herbal medicine. The reason is Curcumin which is the major compound in turmeric. This compound may be effective for many conditions, such as chronic inflammation, various pains, anxiety, and metabolic syndrome.

Valerian

Valerian, also known as nature’s Valium, is a flowering plant with medicinal properties. It is thought that its roots can give you a sense of calm. It is an ancient herb originating from Greece and Rome.

Those times people used to believe that it can relieve restlessness, tremors, heart disease, and headaches. Valerian root can be consumed as fried capsules or in the form of tea.

Although there is not enough valid research in the modern days, some say that valerian is somewhat effective for inducing sleep.

Chamomile

Chamomile is another flowering plant with medical use and is currently among the most sought-after herbal medicines in the world.

Its flowers are mainly used to make tea, but its leaves are also useful and can be used to make tea or dried herbs for medical purposes.

It was believed by ancient people that chamomile is useful for nausea, stomach pain, diarrhea, urinary tract infections, constipation, and wounds.

Some recent research has proved that it might have anti-inflammatory, antioxidant activity, and antimicrobial properties. However, human studies are not sufficient and therefore we can’t talk about its long-term side effects.

Final Word

Although modern medicine has solved lots of illnesses, traditional remedies still have their own fans. Even if there is not enough evidence of their usefulness, at least we can be sure that they’re derived from herbs and therefore are not harmful. Try to consider them as supplementary in order to improve your body’s strength.
