- Learn a new skill
Whether you want to improve your CV or try something creative, learning a new skill will give
you a boost when you realise that there’s no limit to what you can achieve! Here are a few simple skills we’ve found on Youtube that we can’t wait to try out:
-
- The Japanese art of Origami: all you need is a piece of paper and a tutorial!
- Photography: Learn how to take the best pictures possible on your smartphone.
- Headstands: This is an amazing way to build core strength and you will feel so proud once you’ve finally mastered a headstand with no wall support!
- How to clean your jewellery properly: We’ve all been guilty of neglecting our favourite necklaces, now you have some time on your hands – find out how to make your gems sparkle like new!
- Paint a portrait: Trust us, you’ll be surprised at how talented you really are!
- Meditation
In times of increasing stress and uncertainty, we are all searching for ways to balance our minds so we can think more positively. Mediation is a practice that has been widely proven in helping to ease the effects of stress on the mind and body and enhance your emotional and physical well-being. With the ever-increasing rise in popularity of mediation-based apps, there has never been an easier and more accessible time to practice mindfulness and wellbeing. Making this a daily habit will have many long-term physical and mental health benefits ranging from decreased stress and anxiety, lowering blood pressure and a good night’s sleep. Namaste!
- Redecorate
What better way to mark a fresh start after a year of staying home than a complete home makeover? With most of us having spent more time at home in recent months than ever before, refreshing your home is the perfect way to reset your state of mind and start the year off on a positive start. Whether you want to re-arrange the furniture for a new perspective or go all out with a complete redesign; there has never been a more fitting time to refresh your surroundings. It’s a known fact that our mental state can be linked to our physical environment, so if you’re feeling uninspired or disorientated after a difficult year- redecorating, decluttering and organising your home could help you to get back on track.
- Have a big clear out!
Another productive way to get you feeling fresh and ready for a new year is to spend time clearing out and curating your wardrobe (clear space, clear mind!). What may seem like a boring job, may in fact be exactly what you need to help lift some weight off your shoulders. With the help of apps like Depop and eBay, you can give your clothes a new lease of life and earn some cash for some new clothes and accessories. Or simply donate your unwanted pieces to charity, you really can’t go wrong. The best way to do this is by throwing all your clothes and accessories onto the bed and going through each piece to decide whether you should keep it, sell it or donate it. Once you’ve gone through your wardrobe try decluttering, your jewellery box, polishing up those necklaces, earrings and bracelets along the way!
- Try out some new recipes
With the topic of stress-relief on the forefront of many people’s minds, home cooking and baking has become the go-to skill that everyone’s trying out! Cooking can connect us to our loved ones, spark conversation and give you a little bit of ‘me-time’ each day where you can fully focus on the task at hand with no distractions. Whether your house is filled with the comforting smell of baked banana bread or the sound of something simmering on the stove; cooking and baking will engage all of your senses, encouraging you to focus on the small things in life that bring you joy.
