Why it’s OK to Overindulge on Holiday

relaxWhether you’ve been enjoying a healthier lifestyle for some time or you’re keen to keep the pounds at bay while you’re away, overindulging on holiday can seem like a massive no-no.

However, if you want to enjoy those cakes for breakfast and you’d like to go all out with your carb intake one night – do it!

Practicing overindulgence (with some moderation) can actually be a good thing.

Here’s why:

You’ll Have More Fun

If you’re an avid healthy eater and enjoy being one – that’s great. But if you only eat healthy food because you know it’s good for you (and you’d really rather have pizza and chips for tea), then giving in to your desires on holiday is a must.

Let’s face it. If you go on holiday and spend the entire time worrying about what you’re going to eat, you’re not going to enjoy it. You’re going to feel restricted, unsatisfied and bored.

While going all out isn’t recommended – treating yourself to the food you fancy at night isn’t going to do you any harm. And if you are worried about piling on the pounds, make it a reward for going for a walk during the day or swimming a few laps of the pool.

You’ll Make Great Memories

Food is such an important part of our lives and many of our memories centre around gatherings where we all enjoy food and drink together.

Restricting your eating on holiday won’t make for great memories if you feel miserable because you’re missing out. Again, you can feel good about your dining choices by opting for a healthy breakfast and lunch so you can really indulge at night.

Nutrition and Fitness Experts Recommend It, Too!

You might be reading this blog thinking, ‘my fitness instructor would never say this!’

But that’s where you may be wrong.

You see, even nutritionists believe that overindulgence can be a good thing. For example, the guys at Precision Nutrition suggest that sometimes we all need to overindulge.

Why?

Not only is ‘falling off the bandwagon’ the key to most successes but it can also give us that motivation to change our patterns and improve our lifestyle. I mean, come on, how many of us feel bloated, uncomfortable and ready for some clean eating when we get back from our holidays?

Plus, they also say that healthy indulgence can boost your deeper health because you enjoy your holiday indulgence and your mental well-being gets a good boost because of this.

Finally, if this blog has got you drooling at the mouth and you’re looking for inspiration on where to go for great food, you will be able to find lots of great suggestions in the Jules Verne blog featuring the top 10 ranked restaurants in the world. It shows you cuisines from all over the world that have been tried, tested and loved by their customers.

Now, all that’s left for you to do is overindulge – guilt-free!
