Bavaria is home to beer, rolling hills, beautiful architecture and quaint villages. Berchtesgaden is one of those villages, perhaps a tad larger than a village, that offers all of those Bavarian classics in addition to some pretty cool sites. From the Eagle’s Nest to secret gourmet dining, be sure to make this a stop on your next road trip through the region.
One of the most fun tours I’ve ever been on is the tour of the Salt Mines. Located close to Berchtesgaden, this tour is fun for people of all ages. Sure it’s informative and cool to be inside a salt mine mountain but this tour has cool displays, light shows, slides and even a boat ride with a starry sky effect! My description won’t do it justice so make sure you put the salt mine tour on the top of your list and see for yourself!
If you’re heading to Berchtesgaden, Biohotel Kurz is the place to stay. Â A lovely family home turned bed and breakfast, this eco-friendly B n B offers up great, local, organic veggie and vegan food in a beautiful, classic Bavarian setting. Stay and relax or take a cooking class, Biohotel Kurz has it all for the eco and veggie traveler!
In town, follow the cobblestone streets all the way to Kurz A Curry. Hand down some of the best food in all of Bavaria, this asian/indian fusion restaurant might look low key but it has a gourmet chef at the helm. Grab a beer and some killer dahl and enjoy a succulent meal on the border of Germany and Austria!
The new, chic hotel Edelweiss is located right in the center of town. Rooftop bar, gorgeous rooms and a nice restaurant, they’ve got an international menu that can accommodate any special diet diner.
Berchtesgaden might be a quick little stop but worth the time! Next stop, Austria!
