How to Stay Healthy on Long Flights

stress-free travel tipsWhile a far-flung, tropical vacation destination can seem like the perfect antidote to the daily stresses of modern life, and it most definitely can, many forget that you have to endure a long travel process before you can actually start to unwind and relax.

From dehydration to jet lag, swollen legs to lackluster skin, international travelers are confronted with a whole host of health issues when flying long distance – none of which are much fun to endure.

Fortunately, there are steps that you can take to make sure that you stay looking and feeling as healthy as possible on your next long-haul flight.

Keep reading to discover what they are!

Invest in a pair of compression socks

Blood clots and deep vein thrombosis are both conditions that can develop during long flights. Thankfully, a simple pair of compression socks can work wonders for your circulation, improving the oxygen flow in your legs and reducing any possible swelling.

Worried you won’t look the part of a stylish traveler? Compression socks are no longer just practical, they are super stylish as well, with polka dot compression socks being fun, fabulous and functional.

Boost your immune system

Most people are aware that planes are a breeding ground for coughs and colds, with all travelers sitting close to one another. Therefore, it can be a great idea to try and boost your immune system before your vacation.

Start taking a multivitamin as soon as possible and focus on a diet that is rich in fresh fruit and vegetables. If in doubt, focus on eating a rainbow.

It is also essential that you make sure you are up to date with any vaccinations you need for your chosen destination.

Stay hydrated

Although you may be tempted to crack open the champagne to kickstart your vacation, drinking alcohol while flying is not a good idea. In fact, even without any booze, you are likely to become dehydrated on a long-haul flight, resulting in a disrupted sleep cycle and jet lag.

Focus on drinking small amounts of water regularly and avoid sugary drinks, energy drinks and most definitely, all alcoholic beverages.

Keep your hands clean

Germs are often passed around by your hands, so when on a plane, you must practice good hygiene. You may want to purchase a hand sanitizer so that you don’t have to keep visiting the toilet to wash your hands.

It can also be beneficial to limit the number of times that you touch your face, although this can be challenging, especially when you are sitting for an extended period with not much to do.

Take care of your skin

Nobody comes off a long-haul flight looking flawless, however, by having an in-flight skincare routine, you are more likely to look fresh rather than a fright. Start by removing all your makeup, either before you fly or once you have boarded the plane. You should then apply a serum and nourishing face oil to keep your skin supple and moist.

You may also want to regularly spray your skin with a hydrating face mist throughout the flight to maintain moisture levels.
