healthy skinYour skin is the biggest organ in your body, and you only get one. Therefore, it’s vital you always look after it. It helps to keep germs out and moisture in. It’s very flexible and has an amazing ability to repair itself. However, it does require a certain amount of care. It doesn’t require a lot, and any effort you put into its care will be amply rewarded. If you’re wondering what kind of care is required, keep reading. We’re about to share some basic tips. Follow the advice, and you’ll help to stave off signs of aging and reduce the chance of certain skin problems.

Always Protect it From the Sun

There is no better feeling than the warm sun on your skin, but it can be very detrimental over the years. Exposing your skin to the rays of the sun can cause wrinkles, age spots and a number of other skin problems including skin cancer. To take care of your skin and help it to last longer, you should protect it from the sun. There are a number of ways you can do it. For example:

  • Use sunscreen – at least SPF15, applied generously and repeated every two hours.
  • Stay in the shade as much as possible – particularly between 10pm and 4pm when the sun is at its strongest.
  • Wear protective clothing – tightly-woven long-sleeved shirts and pants, together with wide-brimmed hats.

Eat a Healthy Diet

Eating a healthy diet is good for the mind, body and soul. It should be balanced and include fruit, vegetables, whole grains and lean proteins. There is some research that has shown that eating oily fish and reducing unhealthy fats and processed or refined carbohydrates could promote younger looking skin. Drinking the recommended daily amount of water will also help to keep your skin hydrated. If you think you’re not getting enough vitamins and minerals, it is possible to supplement your diet. Liposomal Vitamin C gel capsules, for example, can easily be purchased online, and can help make your skin much firmer.

Ditch the Nicotine Habit

As well as being a major contributing factor in developing cancer, smoking also damages your skin. It makes your skin look older and more wrinkled. Your skin will also look paler because smoking narrows the skins outermost blood vessels and therefore decreases blood flow. A good supply of oxygen and nutrients is vital for skin health. The collagen and elastin on your skin, the fibers that make it strong and elastic, are also damaged by smoking. The best way to protect your skin is to give up smoking completely. Your overall health will also benefit in various ways.

Treat Your Skin with TLC

Adopting a gentle cleaning routine will help it in many ways. You should:

  • Limit the time you spend lounging in the bath as hot water can remove vital oils from your skin.
  • Use mild cleansers and soaps.
  • Protect and lubricate your skin when shaving.
  • Pat rather than rub your skin dry.
  • Moisturize with a moisturizer for your skin type.

One last thing worth mentioning is that stress can make your skin more sensitive and lead to skin problems and breakouts of acne. A healthy state of mind will help to encourage healthy skin.
