How A Physical Therapist Can Improve Your Injuries And Quality Of LIfe

physical therapyAn injury can quickly make you rethink how you get things done. Depending on what you injured, you may have trouble with everyday tasks such as walking, getting dressed, or driving a car. Working with a physical therapist is an effective strategy for injury recovery. Take a few minutes to learn more about the benefits of attending physical therapy after an injury.

Align With Your Schedule

Getting injured can quickly put you behind in getting things done. Pain, limited mobility, and the fact that things can take twice as long (if not longer) when you have an injury don’t help.

Physical therapists know that you have other things going on in your life, and they work to help fit appointments into your schedule. When you work with a Confluent Health physical therapy professional, you can plan appointments around your other obligations.

Personalized Treatment

Injuries can have many similarities, but each one is unique in some way. That makes personalized treatment a priority for proper healing. Your physical therapist will customize a program to meet your needs. It may include stretches, exercises, ice, heat, or a number of other available therapies. The most important part is that your therapist tailors treatment specifically to your injury and how your body is healing from it.

Manage Pain

Dealing with pain day in and day out gets old pretty quickly. Luckily, many physical therapy exercises for shoulder pain (or your specific situation) can help you build stronger joints, increase flexibility, and reduce your pain and discomfort.

Injuries often hurt, there is no way around that. What you can do is work with a qualified therapist to develop a program that helps you manage daily pain so you can get back to doing the things you enjoy.

Reduce the Need for Surgery

Some injuries require surgical intervention for proper healing; however, many patients undergo invasive procedures that offer little to no benefit over physical therapy. Research indicates that injuries such as lower back pain or a torn meniscus recover as well with PT as they do after surgery.

No one wants an unneeded surgery, and physical therapy could potentially help you avoid one. If your doctor determines that surgery is necessary, the increased strength and flexibility you gain at PT  help speed post-op recovery.

Improve Balance and Flexibility

Limited mobility and stiffness are common side effects of many injuries. Left untreated, they can become worse and interfere with other daily functions. Over time, you may find yourself unable to do things you have always enjoyed. This can severely impact your quality of life.

Working with a physical therapist can help increase your flexibility and range of motion, even if it has been a while since you injured yourself. What’s more, you may notice improvements in other functions, such as balance and coordination, that bring about positive changes in other areas of your life.

Working with a physical therapist brings many benefits after an injury. It can help you regain strength, improve flexibility, and reduce pain. Recovery is further aided when combined with flexible schedules and customized treatments. Contact your local PT office for answers to all of your treatment questions, including “how much does physical therapy cost?”
