women over 40Like it or not, as we get older our bodies and appearances go through changes. Some of us are lucky enough to look better with age, while others try to fight the signs of aging. Getting older is part of life, and rather than feeling frustrated about it, we should try to embrace it. In fact, life, when you’re over 40, can often be better! As our bodies change, it is important to look after ourselves and stay fit and healthy. Here are some top tips on health and wellness for the over 40’s and beyond.

Eye Health – Vision in known to deteriorate after the age of 40, so to keep your eyesight sharp you may need to change your prescription for glasses or contact lenses more regularly. There are different sorts of eye conditions we are prone to over the age of 40, and problems with the eyes may also be symptoms of other health conditions, so it is important to be aware of any changes in vision and make sure you have regular eye checks.

Hair – as we get older we get more gray hair, and it may also become thinner. Thinning hair can cause lack of confidence in both men and women, but there are ways to help prevent it. Massaging your scalp when you shampoo with increase blood flow to the area, helping to promote healthy hair growth. There are also hair regrowth products, and vitamins and supplements for thinning hair may also be effective.

Skin – Older skin is often more delicate than younger skin, after years of being exposed to the effects of sun, pollution and our lifestyle. Older skin may be rougher, thinner and loose. Wearing sun lotions will help stop premature skin aging due to UV light.

Mind Set – a healthy mindset has a positive effect on your body and may help you look and feel more youthful. Try to manage stress by practicing mindfulness, a key meditation technique that is proven to change how stress ages the body, as described in more detail online.

Health Checks – getting a health check when you are over 40 is a good idea. You will be able to understand anything that you might need to improve, such as cholesterol levels, blood pressure or whether have any early signs of conditions such as diabetes. Finding these early warning signs early makes all the difference to your health. Your medical practice will be able to give you all the advice you need and more. Life after the age of 40 comes with its own challenges for our health and well-being, but living a good lifestyle, eating the right sorts of foods and getting adequate exercise is a good start. We all have to deal with the signs of aging, but remember that true beauty comes from within. If you feel happy on the inside, it shows on the outside, so that find joy and inner peace and enjoy being the age you are!
