Feeling tired? Here Are 5 Surprising Causes for That

It’s okay to feel tired – after all, we are only human, and our bodies (and brains) sometimes run out of energy. However, the problem starts when tiredness becomes a persistent part of your life, making you unable to complete your work and other responsibilities.

The best way to get rid of tiredness is understanding what causes it, and eliminating the habit or product from your life. However, it is not as easy as you might think. You will be surprised at how many things can be the cause of your fatigue – some of which you have never thought about when trying to determine what is making you feel so tired.

Several things can cause tiredness, ranging from what you eat and drink to the amount of time you spend in bed. There can also be health issues involved, such as adrenal fatigue. That’s why, if you are tired and stressed, check if you have adrenal fatigue here.

The best thing to do is tackle the issue directly and eliminate all the possibilities one by one. When you are trying to figure out what is causing your tiredness, keep in mind that it is often the combination of many little things that make you feel that way.

Here are some of the most common causes of tiredness.

Poor Sleeping Habits

If you have been sleeping poorly for a while (which can happen since tiredness often causes bad sleep), then you may want to consider changing your habits regarding sleep.

First, you should ensure that you are getting a night of good quality sleep – not too much or too little of it. Your body and brain need a certain amount of rest every day. Try to follow your body’s natural pattern, and you will notice that you won’t feel tired anymore.

Secondly, make sure that you are sleeping well. If your place is too bright, noisy, or full of distractions, try to make it a little darker, quieter, and less distracting.

Third, try to stick to your sleep schedule if possible (at least during the week).

And last but not least, make sure that you are not staying up too late – for most people, this is anything past 8 pm.

Unhealthy Diet

Poor diet is one of the leading causes of fatigue. What you eat greatly affects how much energy your body has. If you aren’t eating enough protein and other nutrients, then your body won’t be able to function as well as it could.

You should keep in mind that eating many carbohydrates does not make you feel energized for long. For instance, if you eat a lot of bread and pasta, then your energy will last just for a short period after a meal, and then it will wear off quickly.

You should also be aware of how much sugar your food contains. Sugar is one of the worst things for your body. And contrary to popular belief, it also causes fatigue, so make sure that you are cutting back on sugar in all forms – from processed foods to sugary drinks.

Of course, you should also cut back on other processed foods, which are usually very low in nutrients and high in sugar.

Alcohol

Alcohol is one of the most prevalent causes of fatigue. Many people drink alcohol every day because they think it will make them feel more energetic or happy. However, this is not the case. The truth is that alcohol affects your nervous system in a way that makes you feel like you have less energy than before drinking it.

The only problem with alcohol is that it causes sedation initially, making you believe that it helps you get more energy, but this effect wears off very quickly, leaving you more tired than before.

You should also be aware that drinking too much alcohol can lead to many problems other than feeling tired for long periods of time. These include weight gain, liver damage, heart problems, and a slew of other issues.

Medication

Medication is one of the most overlooked fatigue culprits. If you are on any medications – whether it is an allergy medicine or something else – there is a good chance that these drugs cause your fatigue.

Sure, some medications can do wonders for your body when they are taken at the proper doses for the right amount of time – but when they are taken for extended periods, they can do the exact opposite and cause various problems, leading to fatigue.

If you think that some of your medications might be causing your fatigue, then talk to your doctor about switching to a different medicine combination.

Lack of Physical Activity

If you are not doing enough physical activity every day, your body will not get enough oxygen and nutrients to function correctly. When this happens, your brain will get tired faster than usual. Eventually, this will lead to poor sleep quality, chronic fatigue, and other health problems like obesity.

You should always make sure that you are doing physical activity every day. And even if you don’t have time for regular exercise, you can always do small workouts every day for at least 30 minutes. Even doing that will boost your energy, health, and mood.

Final Note

As you can see, many things can make you feel tired. Everything from your sleeping habits and diet, to medications and lack of exercise, has a significant impact on your overall health and energy levels.

Finding out what causes your issues is crucial when trying to make things better. For instance, if you believe that your dietary habits have gotten worse, maybe it’s time to reconsider your diet? However, no matter what you do, remember to consult your physician first.
