sleep hypnosisSleep hypnosis is mostly used on people with sleeping disorders. Hypnosis is a common technique used by specialists to guide your thinking so you can go into a trance of relaxation making it easier for you to sleep. Modern technology has paved way for the development of online hypnosis. Now you can get a free hypnosis session at the comfort of your home.

If you are thinking about taking sleep hypnosis sessions, this will provide you with all the information you need to know. Let’s start with the basics

What is sleep hypnosis?

Specialists use sleep hypnosis to draw you into a trance by using verbal cues that make you feel calm and relaxed. Specialists use various approaches to make you feel relaxed. Some of the common methods include symptom control, focused attention and guided or provoked imagery. Some others will recommend another self hypnosis technique called the Raikov Effect.

Does sleep hypnosis work?

Sleep hypnosis will work only if you are accepting and open to the idea. It is easy to relax when you believe the process will work. If you do not believe in the process, your muscles may remain rigid, and may be unable to relax. For beneficial results, most specialists use sleep hypnosis with cognitive and behavioural approach in therapy.

What sleep related illnesses is hypnosis known to cure?

Insomnia

Hypnosis allows people with insomnia to relax and let go of the anxiety caused by lack of sleep and other factors. It increases the amount of time you spend in your sleep. Specialists use hypnosis to create a patterned sleep schedule. When your body follows this sleep routine for a couple of weeks, the insomnia disappears and you get a normal sleeping pattern.

Depressions

Depression is common among people with poor sleeping habits. Sleeplessness can create a feeling of hopelessness and despair, which can affect your daily life. Most anti-depressants can be harmful when taken over a long period of time.  Many people prefer hypnosis as an alternative treatment method because it is natural and non-invasive.

Stress

Stress is a common issue among people of all ages. When you experience stress over a long period of time, it can lead to anxiety and other mental issues. Stress can increase your blood pressure and keep you from having a good night’s rest.  Hypnosis is powerful when it comes to eliminating stress.

Pain relief

Pain can be distracting when you are trying to sleep. all you need to do is focus on relaxing and release distracting thoughts from your mind. In this case, you focus on lowering the origin of the pain.  Hypnosis can be used to treat both acute and chronic pain

Sleep apnea

Sleep apnea can be a serious medical condition, or a simple issue caused by physical distress. Hypnosis is perfect for treating simple sleep apnea issues. Here, sleep hypnosis works simple by accessing your subconscious and programming it.  Hypnosis is powerful enough to bring back memories of when you had high quality sleep.

Parasomnias

If you suffer from parasomnias, the treatment can be as simple as using hypnosis to improve your sleeping habits. Hypnosis manages your stress, keeps you relaxed during sleep and sends you into a deep smooth sleep. Specialists also use hypnosis for dream interpretation. Their main aim is to figure out the reason behind your sleep walking, sleep talking, night terrors (or any other parasomnias) and find a suitable solution to the issue

How to make yourself sleep using self induced hypnosis

You do not need a professional to induce sleep hypnosis. You can simply do it from other comfort of your bed. Here are some simple steps you can use to induce hypnosis and promote better sleep

Before you go to bed, engage in relaxing activities

Engaging in relaxing activities is one of the best ways to clear your mind and thoughts before you go to bed. Some of the simple ways to relax your body and mind include taking a bath, reading a book and light aerobics.

Get your environment ready

Your body gets ready for sleep during darkness. When the sun goes down your brain produces melatonin which induces relaxation, fatigue and eventually sleep. Draw down your curtains and make sure your room has minimal light to increase the production and effect of melatonin.

Get comfortable

If you need your mind to relax, you need to achieve physical comfortable first. You can achieve this by wearing comfortable clothes that allow circulation of blood to the rest of your body. Find a comfortable sitting or sleeping position where you feel relaxed the most.

Start clearing your mind

Clearing your mind is important during hypnosis. You need to clear all the thought from your mind in order to relax. We tend to have very troubling thought about the future and past when it’s almost time to sleep. You can write them down in a journal to prevent them from lurking in your mind. Clearing your mind is one of the most important steps of self hypnosis; ensure you do not skip it

If you still feel tensed, relax your body

If you cannot relax your body mentally, do it physically. You can start by massaging your legs and neck, stay focused on parts of your body that are tensed the most. Relax your legs, hips, hands, and knees through simple movements and yoga techniques.

Try a breathing technique

Once you feel that your muscles are relaxed, it’s time to concentrate on your breathing. You can choose to use the 4-7-8 breathing technique or simple deep breathing technique. Close your eyes, take in deep breathes and exhale softly. Ensure your jaw muscles are relaxed, and your body is not tensed when you are doing the breathing technique.

What is your mantra?

You can chose to visualise a peaceful dream or create an inner phrase that will put your mind at ease and send you into deep sleep. Your thoughts should be about the most relaxing place you have been to or you wish to visit. Add a more elaborate picture to your mind like the smell or the feel. If visualising seems too difficult, use a soothing phrase and focus your attention on its meaning. Soothing music and white noise can substitute visualisation and phrasing.

Final word

Hypnosis can help you solve your sleeping problems with just a few sessions. If your sleeping issue is newly diagnosed, hypnosis is the best way to go. it is simple, does not alter your body or sleep and has a high chance of guaranteed success.
