Common Sleeping Disorders and How to Deal With Them

A More Restful Sleep is in Your FutureSleeping after a long day of activities has to be one of the most fulfilling activities ever. Well, unless you cannot. Unfortunately, sometimes people have a hard time sleeping due to disorders that may come into place. Most of these disorders are solved by visiting your nearest health facility for recommended solutions from companies such as SomnoMed. Here are some of the disorders and how to deal with them.

Insomnia

Insomnia is a sleeping disorder that bars you from either sleeping or staying asleep. Two forms of insomnia are transient insomnia and chronic insomnia. Transient insomnia is short-term and may occur mainly in the aftermath of a stressful event. Chronic insomnia is when this disorder lasts for more than a month. If you have insomnia, it is advisable to visit your physician, who will analyze your situation and prescribe you medication depending on the cause of your insomnia. Other methods you may use include cognitive behavior therapy, hypnosis, sleep restriction, and stimulus control. Lifestyle changes are also advised.

Sleep Apnea

Sleep Apnea is a sleeping disorder whereby your airway gets blocked whenever you sleep and stop breathing. It can happen many times and may derive feelings of exhaustion. Sleep Apnea is treated in various ways, such as CPAP therapy. CPAP stands for Continuous Positive Airway Pressure, whereby a machine keeps your airway open as you sleep. Other remedies include wearing an oral appliance whenever sleeping, surgery, undergoing weight loss, and positional therapy.

Narcolepsy

Narcolepsy is a disorder that causes you to fall asleep anywhere, anytime, even when eating. Someone that suffers from this disease cannot control their sleep cycle. It can also cause hallucinations. Treatment of Narcolepsy can be through having scheduled naps. You can also visit your physician for other recommended medication and therapy.

Restless Legs Syndrome

Restless Legs Syndrome is a disorder whereby you get an uncontrollable urge to move your legs whenever you are asleep. It comes with other uncomfortable sensations such as aching, tingling, burning and feeling like something is crawling up your foot. It can also manifest itself in other body parts. If you have this, you should visit your physician for medication. Behavioral therapy is also recommended.

REM Sleep Behavior Disorder

REM sleep behavior disorder is a disorder that disengages the muscle paralysis function of the body whenever you are asleep, making you act out your dreams. This disorder may cause a danger to you and anyone around you. This disorder may also be characterized by shouting, talking, hitting, punching, and screaming. REM Sleep Behavior Disorder is mainly treated with medication. So, make sure you visit your physician.

Conclusion

Sleeping disorders are prevalent nowadays and should be treated as early as possible. You should also be careful if you have them or are dealing with someone who has the disorders as you may cause injuries either to yourself or others. If you recognize any symptoms make sure you visit a physician to prescribe a treatment to go back to optimum functioning.
