Choosing The Right Job Is Crucial For Your Mind & Body

office designWe live in a world where too many people rush into jobs for the sake of having a job. We are so obsessed with the idea of being financially successful that we end up in careers that are damaging our bodies and minds. It might seem overdramatic, but it’s true. Your choice of job is crucial for your mental and physical well-being, and so many people don’t recognize this.

Think of this post as something of a test. You’re going to see a few signs below that tell you your job is damaging your health. If any of these signs are present in your career, it could be time to pursue something different; something more mentally and physically beneficial.

You’re physically exhausted every day

Do you get home from work in a state of complete and utter exhaustion? Does your body feel sore? Are your muscles and joints tired? If this is the case, you’re clearly working a job that’s too physically demanding. Especially if you feel this sore, yet you don’t get the next day off. If you’re constantly working, yet aren’t given adequate time off to recover, it can do long-lasting damage to your physical health.

Also, if you feel any chronic pain from work, that’s another key sign it’s bad for your physical well-being. You might actually have a case with a workplace injury lawyer if you are chronically sore, but the best option is to find a job that doesn’t leave you exhausted all the time.

You’re highly stressed & anxious because of work

Is your job making you stressed and anxious? A good way to tell is if you get home from work and constantly think about your job. You’re worrying about the next day or you’re anxious about something that happened today at work. You may also struggle to sleep at night because your dreams are full of work-based things that keep you up for hours.

Stress is a normal aspect of working life. It is okay to feel some levels of stress now and then, particularly if you have a lot going on at work. During the festive period, work tends to get more stressful than usual. This is fine, but when you are constantly stressed throughout the year, that’s when you should maybe reconsider if this job is good for your mental health.

Your eating habits have changed

Have you noticed a change in your eating habits since you started your job? Perhaps you have put on lots of weight, or maybe you’ve gone in the opposite direction and lost an unhealthy amount.

A change in eating habits can be bad for your body and mind. Yes, it could be linked to stress, and your job is responsible for that. You might be forced to work certain shifts or long hours with minimal breaks, making it hard to stay healthy and eat good foods. You want to be healthy, but a short lunch break means you head out and get the quickest thing you can find – which is usually an unhealthy sandwich from a local shop! If you notice your eating habits are negatively affected by your job, it’s a sign something needs to change.
