Nutrition for Your Hair: What Could You Be Lacking?

hair with soft waterIf you want healthy, shiny hair, you may need to adjust your lifestyle. Of course, that’s easier said than done if you don’t know where to start. Should you use the Untangled Hair Supplement or focus on your diet? Honestly, it’s best to look at both options.

It Starts With Your Diet

Your body needs high-quality materials to build strong, silky locks. Those materials come from your food, making diet one of the most important factors in hair health. To address issues such as dryness and breakage, ensure you consume enough vitamins C and E, protein and beta-carotene.

Protein

Keratin is the main molecule in hair cell structure and plays a vital role in skin and nails. Keratin also happens to be a protein; consuming the recommended amount of protein ensures your body has the right building blocks to grow long, unbreakable hair.

Red meat is particularly iron-rich, which makes it excellent for hair growth. However, you can find protein in many different foods, including fruits and vegetables. In fact, it’s a good idea to get your protein from a variety of sources:

  • Soybeans and soy products (tofu, soymilk, etc.)
  • Legumes and beans
  • Nuts and seeds

Vitamins C and E

Vitamins C and E are both vital to healthy hair and skin. In fact, many topical products utilize them — you’ve probably seen articles comparing vitamin C serum vs cream for glowing, hydrated skin.

For hair health, try to incorporate these vitamins into your daily meals. Consuming foods high in vitamin C reduces split ends and can keep your tresses hydrated, while vitamin E keeps strands shiny and elastic. How does this work? Your body utilizes vitamin C to produce collagen, which is crucial for youthful hair and skin, while vitamin E is an essential building block for your hair’s protective moisture barrier.

Fruits often have both vitamin C and E, making them an invaluable part of your diet. The following are a great place to start:

  • Raspberries
  • Kiwis
  • Mangos
  • Cranberries
  • Blackberries

Beta-Carotene

Beta-carotene isn’t a vitamin itself. Instead, it’s a plant pigment that the human body can process into vitamin A. It also functions as an antioxidant, a compound that prevents the development of free radicals. Since free radicals break down cells, limiting them is essential to boosting hair growth.

Vitamin A is also a crucial nutrient for hair and scalp health, though you should avoid consuming more than the recommended amount. If you need to add vitamin A to your diet, consider these foods:

  • Peas
  • Onions
  • Spinach
  • Carrots

Adding in Hair Growth Vitamins

Balancing your diet can be a struggle if you don’t have access to fresh fruits and vegetables, don’t have time to cook or travel often. Fortunately, there’s a solution: hair growth vitamins.

These supplements contain the nutrients necessary to keep your tresses breakage-free. Taking these, in addition to eating as healthy as possible, can help you reach your hair goals.

Now that you know the basics, you can build a strong foundation for healthy hair. As you consider Wellbel vs Nutrafol and other products, remember to think about your routine in the long term. Sustainable changes will keep your skin and hair looking fabulous for years to come.
