The Science Behind Using CBD for Improved Sleep

Improve Sleep QualityGone are the days when CBD was rarely spoken about. CBD oil, CBD gummies and even CBD tea and coffee are widely available to purchase online and in-store, giving people the opportunity to test its benefits for themselves and improve factors they find challenging to control in their lives such as stress and anxiety. But CBD may also offer a better night’s sleep, particularly amongst those who have insomnia or find it difficult to switch off due to real world worries keeping them up at night. With that in mind, we’re taking a closer look at the benefits of best cbd for sleep and how it could help you turn your nighttime routine around.

Promotes Relaxation

A major benefit of CBD is that it helps to promote relaxation, making it easier for many to switch off from their everyday life stresses and enter a state of relaxation that may otherwise take longer without the aid of CBD. Reportedly, cortisol levels decline when consuming CBD through the mouth such as oil under your tongue or in a juice or smoothie, helping to regulate our stress response. As a result, you will enter a faster state of relaxation, helping to regulate feelings of worry, stress and general anxiety.

CBD is also well known for its anxiety reducing properties, which is ideal for those who struggle to get a good night’s sleep due to the difficulty faced around being able to relax and unwind. Essentially, CBD activates CB1 receptors or ‘cannabinoid’ that are found in the brain’s amygdala and control the activity levels of the chemical messengers or ‘neurotransmitters’ our bodies rely on to function. Anxiety may occur when these receptors are blocked, but the consumption of CBD helps to revert that, reducing feelings of anxiety for improved sleep.

Lowers Heart Rate 

CBD is also known to reduce the heart rate and blood pressure of those who consume it on a regular basis. This is particularly useful if you are experiencing high levels of stress that may be causing you further health problems. CBD also has anti-inflammatory properties, with effects being felt between 15 minutes and 45 minutes of consumption. It’s particularly popular amongst those with arthritis and experience ongoing pain and discomfort offering a form of relief in addition to other traditional medication methods used. 

Regulates Stress

CBD is also a product used to treat stress, helping to calm the nervous system through maintaining the body’s homeostasis. It also helps to change the initial brain reaction, helping us feel more at ease in situations we would otherwise find more difficult to control our natural emotions. CBD edibles, capsules or oil provide the fastest relief and begin to work between 30 within to 2 hours of consumption, providing a quick solution to getting a good night’s sleep.

There are so many benefits associated with CBD, not least the ability to have a more comfortable and longer sleep.
