My favorite Halloween memory is of the Halloween Carnivals we used to have at my old elementary school. Back then, they actually called it a Halloween Carnival rather than a Fall Festival like they do now. I much prefer Halloween Carnival. They even provided us with a truly spooky haunted house!

I like every Halloween because I go all out, getting discount candy at the end of the year and freezing them for the next. I have bowls of candy, apples, bananas, boiled egg ghosts, and, sometimes, drinks & chips for the trick-or-treaters. One year, they had individually wrapped caramel apples on discount for 25 cents each at Kroger the week before Halloween, and I put them in the fridge. I had 13. And they had 16 oz. bags of candy orange slices on discount at Big Lots for 25 cents that year, too, and I got 12 of them. The first few trick-or-treaters that year REALLY got a treat! I always have a ton of decorations up, play scary CDs, and dress up. Everyone says my place is the best in town, and they don’t know I don’t spend a ton of money.

6th grade when my friend and I dressing up as Rubik’s Cubes when they were all the rage, growing up in L.A. Getting paint all over ourselves and finding it very hard and hilarious to walk, use the bathroom, pretty much do anything. It was especially hard to take the big painted box off at the end of the night.

I was sharing a house on a hill. The yard was raised up about 5 feet from the sidewalk. I came home from work after dark and found the yard riddled with 4 foot stakes. Each stake had a carved pumpkin head perched atop with a candle lit inside. The entire yard was aglow with floating heads and the kids in the neighborhood loooooved it. It was very spooky even for us grownups.

My favorite Halloween memory was three years ago when I was teaching English in the Japanese countryside. I dressed up as a pumpkin (it was a HUGE inflatable costume that made it difficult to walk and maneuver around in) and went to the local library, where all the schoolchildren gathered around me, touching my costume and asking me endless questions. I had just started teaching at their school a month ago, and the Halloween pumpkin costume was the perfect way to break the ice!

NOthing with food – I’m going way back to my college days. We got invited to this party in an abandoned downtown warehouse where we had to operate a freight elevator to get up to the party.

I still don’t believe we did it. Wild, great fun. I would NEVER do that at this point of my life. We could have been killed and we weren’t even sure we were in the right building.

    Oh sweet bird of youth!

My favorite Halloween memory is of all the times I went trick-or-treating as a kid with my best girlfriends. We’d walk and walk and walk until our feet hurt, then come back to my house and swap candy with each other.

I am such a chocoholic, this would be just my “cup of chocolate”

my favorite memory of Halloween is when my sister and I went out trick or treating, went to a neighbors door and she only had one candy bar left. we left, but my sneaky sister made an excuse and went back to the neighbor without me knowing and asked the lady if she could have the candy bar.

  56. sandy says:

WOW! I’ve been trying to find vegan hot chocolate for ages. These are amazing!

My favorite Halloween memory has to be when I was like 12. My brother and I got to go trick or treating in our neighborhood completely parent free. We got to eat candy before we got home and everything. It was awesome. Hooray for independence. 🙂
