Herbs with Powerful Health BenefitsAre you looking to improve your health in a safe and natural way? The solution you’re searching for may be plant-based products. Throughout human history, plants have been used for a wide variety of purpose, including medicine. In fact, herbal medicine was the primary way people treated illness thousands of years ago.

Nowadays, plants are still being utilized in the treatment of a number of health concerns. These conditions often include fatigue, migraines, arthritis, allergies, burns, wounds, skin infections, gastrointestinal issues, and more. While they are still in use, they aren’t used as widely as the chemically formulated medications doctors often prescribe. Herbs are often less expensive and present less of a risk for side effects. The following are some of the most effective medicinal herbs and what they do.

1. Cinnamon – Helps with Blood Sugar

Besides being a delicious addition to your pastries and coffee, cinnamon also contains a compound called cinnamaldehyde. This substance is what gives the sweet treat its medicinal properties. While it’s used as an antioxidant for many problems, it’s very effective in lowing blood sugar levels. It’s able to slow the breakdown of carbs in the digestive tract as well as improve insulin sensitivity. If you’re looking to incorporate more cinnamon into your diet to help improve your health, try to get 0.5 to 2 teaspoons or 1 to 6 grams daily.

2. Sage – Said to Improve Brain Function and Memory

Sage is used for more than just cleansing the spaces. It also has a big medicinal reputation. In the middle, it was extremely popular for healing and was used to prevent the plague. Today, it’s been used to improve memory and brain function with many studies being done with those suffering from Alzheimer’s disease. Those with the disease experience a drop in the acetylcholine levels, and Sage inhibits the breakdown of this chemical messenger in the brain.

A 4-month trial conducted in 2003 in three centers in Tehran, Iran tested these properties. They took 42 individuals that suffered from mild to moderate Alzheimer’s and noted promising improvement among those who used the sage extract. Other studies have shown that it can also help improve memory in people who are completely healthy.

3. Peppermint – Relieves IBS Pain and May Reduce Nausea

Peppermint is another herb that is associated with a long history of healing properties. It’s important to note that it’s only the oily component of peppermint that contains healing qualities. It notably helps those with irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) relieve pain by helping to relax the smooth muscles of the colon. It is also known to reduce bloating in the abdominal region, which is commonly associated with digestive issues. There’s also promising research that backs the claim that it’s used to help fight nausea.

4. Haritaki Powder – Cleanses the Digestive System

Haritaki powder comes from the fruit of the Haritaki tree. It’s made by grinding it into a fine powder, which can range in color from green-tinged yellow to a light brown. Haritaki is commonly known as the “King of Herbs” among those who closely follow the trends of Herbal medicine.

Haritaki powder benefits are numerous. Most notably, it can help common digestive issues. Those experiencing gas, constipation, or bloating can find relief with this powder. It’s also known to possess the ability to relieve some symptoms associated with many chronic illnesses. Those looking to try Haritaki can take a daily supplement in pill form or purchase it in powder form to make tea.

The Bottom Line

In many cases, plant-based supplements are a safer alternative to drugs. Before establishing a supplement regime, consult your doctor. Remember to do your own research too to fully understand what’s best for you. After all, your health is the most important thing.
