Exposing The Common Lies You’ve Been Told By The Fitness Industry

fitness bootcampThe fitness industry can be a very dangerous place as there are so many lies flying around. To make things even worse, a lot of these lies come from places that you’d imagine have a fair bit of knowledge. They’re trustworthy sources, and they’ve been straight up lying to your face for years.

Today, the most common lies in the fitness industry are going to be exposed. Read on to find out what you’ve been lied to about:

Sweating loads helps you lose body fat

We’ve all heard the lie that sweating loads will help you lose body fat more quickly. As a result, people go to the gym and wear layers of clothing to try and sweat more. The reality is that sweating doesn’t equal body fat loss. Instead, it just means you lose water weight. To lose body fat you need to enter a caloric deficit and burn more calories than you consume. It doesn’t matter how much you sweat, this won’t directly influence your body fat levels. There’s a great video that explains this better than I can, and I’ll link it below for you.

If women lift heavy weights, you’ll turn into a lump of muscle

If I had a penny for every woman that’s said they don’t lift weights because they don’t want to get really muscly, then I’d be a billionaire. It’s such a common misconception, and the fitness industry has fueled this lie for years with workouts tailored towards women that use hardly any weights or tell you to use light weights. In reality, it’s good to lift heavy as it helps you tone up and makes your muscles a lot firmer. You’ll never become huge like guys because girls don’t produce enough testosterone. In fact, you can even try a supplement like Tongkat Ali root extract to boost your testosterone, and you still wouldn’t make as much as the average man. Instead of avoiding weights, pick them up more often and focus on building muscle. It’s proven that gaining muscle mass helps you lose weight and makes you healthier too.

You can’t get fit without supplements

I feel sorry for fitness newbies as they spend a lot of money going out and buying any supplement they find. We’re often told that you need to have protein powder, you need BCAAs, and so on. In actuality, not everyone needs supplements. Yes, there are loads of good ones out there that have proven results and benefits. However, to say you ‘need’ them is a lie. You can still get fit without any supplements if you have the right diet in place and train properly. What’s more, certain people benefit from specific supplements more than others, so bear that in mind as well.

Clearly, there are loads of other lies out there too. I’ve picked these three as they’re probably the most relevant to my audience, and also they’re probably the most common. If you want me to do a part two to this post, then let me know in the comments below!
