It doesn’t have to be this way. There are plenty of things you can do to make running an enjoyable and even exciting experience. You just have to be a little more creative and perhaps be open to sharing your sport with others. After all, the premise of getting fit and healthy while enjoying it is something we are all attracted to.
Join A Group or Participate in Events
It doesn’t have to be something huge that costs exorbitant membership fees or has you running your heart out trying to keep up with ten-time marathon champions. Simply do some research, speak with other runners, and find a group that’s both open to members with less flexible schedules and doesn’t have some crazy fees.
Another great alternative is to occasionally participate in one of the countless running events that happen all around the US. Whether it be an awe-inspiring night color run or a thrilling Rock ‘n Roll run, there’s really something for everyone here. Simply check out what’s available in your area that you are confident about participating in and who knows, you might just meet some great like-minded people who can motivate you to reach your fitness goals.
Have GPS? Try to Paint a Picture
If you have a smartwatch or some other GPS equipped device (even your smartphone should have it) then why not try to make some art? Most apps will track your route, among other things such as distance, speed, and steps taken. Not only does this give you a great statistical overview of how your run went and how you improved over time, but you can also take advantage of the route tracking feature.
Running-drawing has become a bit of a trend recently that has turned many runners into some sort of really fit artists, drawing all sorts of funny and sometimes inappropriate images by running in a certain pattern to create an image.
Run with Your Dog
People aside, dogs love nothing more than running freely in vast open spaces and taking in all the sights, sounds, and smells that they’re otherwise deprived of when at home. As long as your dog is up for it and won’t get hurt in any way, try taking them along with you. Just ensure that you have a safety leash for your furry friend and that they’ll be comfortable joining you on your route.
Conclusion
There are a million other things you can do. Watch television on the treadmill, run with friends, set challenges and reward yourself with new running equipment for each goal; the list goes on. With a bit of creativity and enthusiasm, running can be more than just something you do for your physical health.
