Finding Time to Exercise and Relax On a Busy Schedule

yogaWhen life gets busy, certain activities get put on the backburner. Exercise and relaxation are two of those activities. But it doesn’t have to be that way.

Here are some tips on squeezing in some time to exercise and relax on your busy schedule.

1. Get An Online Personal Trainer

It’s 2017, and the world is more digital than ever. Take advantage of the digital world and try out online personal training.

When you have a lot going on your plate, a visit to the gym can be close to impossible. So, why not bring the gym to you? The flexibility of online personal training allows you to do your workout right from your home, which saves times from travelling to and from the gym.

2. Explore The Wonders of Multitasking

Look through your day and take note of your downtimes. These times could include waiting for laundry to finish, commercials in between your favorite show, or waiting for the elevator. Downtimes are perfect opportunities to squeeze in a little workout.

A 30-minute TV show has around nine minutes worth of commercials. Turn that into a nine-minute-workout. Have light dumbbells on hand to lift weights or see if you can hold a Yoga pose until the commercials finish.

Have kids in sports activities? Throw in a little workout time while waiting. Spend the first half jogging around the sports arena, kids’ sports usually get intense around the last half so you still get to see the best part and your cardio for the day.

No matter what the downtime is, there’s always an opportunity to squeeze in some exercise on your busy life. Start by taking the stairs instead of the elevator.

3. Perform Relaxing Breathing Exercises In Between Work

Simple deep breathing exercises are not only good for the body; they also help reduce stress. But did you know that they’re also good for productivity too? A deep breath replenishes the oxygen tank in the body and acts as a restart button.

Try the “4-7-8 Method” created by Dr. Andrew Weil. Take a deep breath in through your nose for four counts. Hold it in for seven counts, then take eight counts to blow out through your mouth. Do this a couple of times a day to reach a calming state.

Take a moment in between work to stand up, walk around, and stretch. Sitting for long periods of time increases your risk of heart problems and weight gain, and is not good for your mental health. So lift your hands up for an overhead stretch. Bend over and touch your toes to stretch the legs. Rotate and stretch the wrists, especially if you’ve been typing all day. Even throw in a lunge or two next time you’re walking to your boss’s office.

4. Use Aromatherapy Before You Sleep

Aromatherapy—diffusing essential oils—is an easy way to promote instant relaxation. Not only that, aromatherapy is known to provide a list of health benefits and is especially recommended for people with insomnia.

The average person takes around 15 to 20 minutes to fall asleep. Just like squeezing in a workout during the day, take that 20 minutes to relax with aromatherapy.

Lavender essential oil is the best choice to promote holistic relaxation. Chamomile and jasmine oils are also known to help reach a relaxing, sleep state. Diffusing should be no more than 30 to 45 minutes long.

Alternatively, if you don’t have a diffuser, try lighting up regular scented candles. Royal Essence candles have scents like Lavender & Honey and White Jasmine which help promote sleep.

Learn To Make Time

No matter what your schedule looks like, exercise and relaxation should always be there. Even a simple workout can improve your mood, help with sleep, and improve cognitive functions. Relaxation relieves stress, rejuvenates the mind and body for better days ahead.

Schedule your day to include these activities. If there is really no time, then it might be time to start easing up on the workload. Delegate tasks or simply say ‘no’ once in a while. Your body and mind will thank you for this.
