Energized: Natural Ways to Banish Your Blahs

get energizedThere is such a thing as the 3 o’clock energy crash but some people feel ‘blah’ at other times throughout the workday and weekends.  However, you don’t have to accept a depletion of energy and feeling less than your best.  There are natural ways to banish feeling depleted of energy.

Take a Breath

Breathing is essential to life and it’s also very important when it comes to feeling energized.  Breathing deeply is a simple yet underutilized act.  A homeopathist recommends taking 20 deep breaths, exhaling through the mouth.  Doing so while stretching helps oxygenate the body, reinvigorating your body and brain.  Do this when you first wake in the morning or whenever you feel depleted and need an added boost.

Eat Eggs at Breakfast

People get in the habit of consuming carbs and caffeine for breakfast but doing so provides a limited amount of energy, which is then followed by a crash.  However, egg yolks provide a rush of B vitamins that are vital to energy production.  Moreover, eggs are a great source of protein and amino acids.  Whether you decide to scramble, boil, or prepare your eggs in another fashion, you’re facilitating better brain functioning.

Master Meditation

Ironically, sitting calmly helps with producing energy.  Meditation makes the mind stronger and enables one to become less distracted by noise, etc.  Whether you know it or not, when your brain is distracted, it expends more energy, which makes you feel tired.  Have you ever felt tired when spending a lot of time in a public place such as a parade or concert?  It’s because your brain is continuously distracted by stimuli in the immediate environment.  When you master meditation, you learn to exact laser focus where you really want your attention to be.  Start by meditating 20 minutes per day.

Get a Massage

Getting a massage can make you feel energized and relaxed.  Massages increase blood circulation and release toxins and waste.  Additionally, your body will be able to heal itself, which prevents you from feeling tired and sluggish.  Additionally, some of the scents used by therapists increase energy while making massage recipients feel refreshed and fulfilled.

Take a Stroll

When you’re feeling sluggish, exercise won’t be appealing nor feel like a solution, yet when you’re regularly active, you become less prone to lethargy.  You don’t have to become a triathlete or start training for the Olympics.  Rather, start with a taking a walk each day for about a half an hour.  If that is too strenuous, walk for less time.  Also, it’s advantageous to consult your doctor before engaging in regular exercise to learn of any limitations and to hear further suggestions.

Include Iron in Your Diet

It’s important to eat the right foods at the right time, but if you’re a creature of habit and often eat the same foods, you may be missing out on essential vitamins and minerals.  At times, people feel lethargic because they don’t get enough iron in their diet.  It’s one of the most difficult minerals for the body to absorb.  Aside from iron supplements, red meat, beans, nuts, dried fruit, and kale are excellent sources of iron.  Supplements like Bliss Go Pack can provide an added boost of energy during the day.

Drink Water

Water is essential to life but it’s also needed to maintain energy.  When cells are hydrated, they can’t effectively get rid of body toxins.  Water helps regulate internal systems and proper functioning of cells.  Eating when dehydrated leads to constipation and a depletion of energy.   Make it a point to regularly drink water throughout the day.

Try  Acupuncture

Acupuncture specialists often hear about a lack of energy.  Lethargy is especially common during or just after the winter season.  A body’s energy can wane due to too much work and stress.  Low energy may be supplemented with poor sleep and digestive issues.  Acupuncture seeks to regulate the natural energy flow of the body.

Listen to Your Body

Each person’s body has a natural rhythm.  Most people feel sluggish upon waking regardless of the number of hours slept.  Energy peaks in the middle of the morning and another boost of energy occurs in the early evening.  The lowest point of energy occurs just before bedtime.  This is generally true yet it’s important to know your own rhythms so you can plan your day accordingly.  For example, you may want to go to the gym right after work.  Go in the early evening when you have a boost of energy rather than wait until later in the evening.  Schedule rigorous physical and mental tasks for when you have the most energy in the day.
