5 Ways to Take Care of Your Dog

5 Things To Keep in Mind When Shopping For The Best Dog LeashWhile pups can be a cute addition to the family, they also come with certain responsibilities. Read on to learn more about how to take care of your dog.

Feed Your Dog the Right Way

Sometimes, people get carried away with pampering their pets, leading to overfeeding. Believe it or not, at least 50% of American dog owners make the mistake of overfeeding their dogs; hence, most dogs are obese. Obese dogs are at a greater risk of developing several illnesses, including cardiovascular diseases and joint issues.

Obesity makes dogs less mobile and causes them to be lethargic. That said, you will be doing your loyal friend a great favor by feeding it appropriately. If you are confused about the type of food and food ratio that you should be providing your dog with, you may consult with a professional vet and avoid giving your dog more food than needed.

Keep Checking their Nose

Ideally, your pet dog’s nose should feel wet whenever you touch it. While the level of wetness of the nose might vary from one breed to another, it also depends on the season. Dogs sweat through their nose – their wet nose helps them stay cool in the summers. Rest assured, a cool and slightly wet nose indicates a healthy dog.

Go for Regular Checkups

You don’t necessarily have to wait for your dog to get sick before taking them to the vet. If you want your dog to be healthy and fine, make sure to schedule annual appointments with their vet. The professional experts will screen and analyze your dog’s health to determine the wellbeing of your precious pet. You can also rule out any potential health issues with no apparent symptoms by going for regular checkups.

Play with Your Pup

Playing with your pet dog is important, especially during the early stages of adaptation. In other words, you should play to desensitize them and make them familiar with being touched on the mouth, ears, and feet. Besides, by playing with your dog and touching their mouth and feet, you will also make their future vet appointments easier as the dog will be used to being touched in certain areas and won’t react during their examination.

Don’t forget to take your dog on a walk every day. If you have a busy schedule, you can also hire the services of a professional walker, such as Holidog.com.

Keep a “First Aid Kit” Close

Did you know that a first aid kit isn’t only for humans but also your pets? Accidents and medical emergencies can happen to pets and humans alike. If you want to be a responsible dog owner, you must keep a first aid kit close, especially when your dog is accompanying you to your vacation trips and your adventures, such as camping. If you cannot find a pet first aid kit from your local market, you can also make one at home.
