5 Things Long Distance Drivers Can Do to Help Their Physical Condition

If you love road trips, long distance driving may not be an issue for you. After all, being on the open road is quite thrilling.

One issue with long distance driving, though, is that you can injure yourself relatively easily doing it. Long distance drivers can develop leg issues, back problems, neck conditions, and so forth. You can undoubtedly combat all that in certain ways, though. Let’s talk about some of the best methods to avoid injuries or pain if you’re driving for many hours every week.

You Can Get Acupuncture Treatment

If you are going to be a long distance driver, be it for fun or work commuting, and you know you’re probably going to deal with painful body parts at some point, it’s helpful to learn about Ayurvedic medicine. Ayurveda refers to an Indian series of treatments that help many individuals deal with pain and other health problems. It has been around for centuries, but there are both Western practitioners and those in the East who know about it.

For instance, acupuncture treatments are part of Ayurvedic medicine. You can usually find someone who will do it for you, and if you have health insurance, that might even pay for it. You might have a copay that goes along with your treatment, but it’s worth it if you get weekly sessions.

Acupuncture involves a practitioner inserting thin, long needles into your body at particular points. It sounds painful, but it can provide you with relief if you have nagging injuries, stiffness, or soreness stemming from your truck driving career. It does not work for everyone, but it’s worth a try.

You Can Use Ice Packs to Treat Any Nagging Injuries or Stiffness

You can also make sure to rest up when you’re between drives and put ice packs on your knees, ankles, back, neck, or anywhere else that’s bothering you. Ice can keep the swelling down and help you with pain. You can keep some handy in your freezer, so they’re waiting for you when you get home.

You also might try heat wraps for the same effect. Some individuals find that heat works better than cold. Also, if you live in a chilly climate and it’s winter, putting on those heat packs can feel fantastic.

You Can Take Up Yoga

Drivers can also try yoga to stay limber and keep you from getting too stiff if you drive very often. You can look at some helpful YouTube videos if you want to learn some of the more basic poses.

You can also attend yoga classes to get some more hands-on training or learn some more complex positions. A yoga instructor can correct your posture and recommend a routine based on what body parts bother you most. Also, you can often meet fun people at these classes, and you might become friends with some of them.

You Can Get Regular Massages

You can also get regular massages. Now that the pandemic restrictions are not as rigid in many states, most masseuses are starting to offer their services again. It’s a bit expensive to pay for massages, but you will likely find that it’s well worth it for the relief they provide.

When you see your masseuse, be sure to tell them precisely what hurts. They can focus on the body parts that need it most. They can also do different kinds of massage that might benefit you, like deep tissue, hot stones, or a sports-style massage.

You Can Get a Massage Chair for Your Home

You can also save some money over time if you elect to buy a massage chair for your home instead of regularly paying a masseuse. As a trucker, you’ll likely make a pretty good salary, and a massage chair is a sensible one-time purchase that’s worth the money. You can generally get some pretty good ones for a few hundred dollars, or you can even pay a couple thousand for a high-end one with an extended warranty.

Long distance drivers need to take care of themselves since it can be more physically demanding than you might realize at first. Come up with a routine that works well for you so your pain will not affect your life very much.
