4 Ways to Upgrade Your Skincare Routine

take care of your skinUpgrading your skincare routine doesn’t have to be costly or time consuming. This is especially true if you go the natural route! Natural products are much less harmful and abrasive and are less likely to cause irritation, redness, and other skin flaws. Keep reading to learn 4 all-natural ways to upgrade your skincare routine.

1. Make a DIY Exfoliator

There isn’t enough lotion in the world to fix a dead top layer of skin. Putting lotion on without exfoliating is a huge failure in most people’s skincare routines. If you’re looking for silky smooth skin, daily exfoliation is a must. Most people don’t know that you need to get rid of all of the dead skin cells first. Such tips and many others are on misumi, where you can learn about the most efficient skincare strategies. We can’t know everything from the get-go, which is why investing time to learn is important to be able to see results.

But if you’ve ever looked in stores, you’ve probably seen that exfoliating products aren’t the cheapest. The good news is that you can make an exfoliating scrub at home to remove dead, dry skin to reveal a fresh new layer.

You can use a variety of ingredients for your at-home exfoliating scrub, but most commonly used options include white or brown sugar, coconut or jojoba oil, and a natural fragrance like rose or lavender oil. Don’t want to use a sugar scrub? Ground walnut shells and coffee are used in many natural products to give your skin a gentle scrub.

2. Use Natural Deodorant

When you think of skincare, deodorant probably doesn’t come to mind quickly. But, the skin under your arms can be super sensitive because of the thinness of the skin. If you wear tank tops or summer dresses, you know the importance of not only smelling fresh but also having nice-looking armpits that are free of discoloration and deodorant stains.

A huge pit-fall (pun totally intended!) with antiperspirants is that it contains aluminum. Aluminum prevents the release of sweat which traps toxins in the skin. The toxins buildup and can cause inflammation and bumps.

The problem with deodorant is that it doesn’t stop the sweating, but instead, it tackles the bacteria in the armpit. Remember, sweating is a good thing.

Aside from aluminum compounds, deodorants also contain a variety of other harmful ingredients including:

  • Talc
  • Silica
  • Parabens
  • Phthalates
  • Triclosan

These toxic ingredients have been linked to a variety of health issues including endocrine disruption, skin irritation, cancer, and infertility. To avoid the potential side effects and to stay smelling great all day long, be sure to go the natural route. The best natural deodorant for women should be made with non-toxic ingredients such as zinc oxide, magnesium, and a natural scent like lavender. These natural ingredients can tackle the smelliest of armpits by neutralizing odor and stopping bacteria from growing. These natural ingredients are also good for burns, acne, infections and evening oily skin.

3. Prevent Wrinkles

Everyone deals with stress and no one can slow the clock of time, which means that none of us are resistant to fine lines and wrinkles. If you want your skin to look youthful and supple, knowing how to prevent wrinkles is a must. While there are all sorts of products on the market that claim to remove crow’s feet and wrinkles around the mouth, there are all sorts of lifestyle changes and natural preventions that you can use. Options for preventing and minimizing wrinkles include moisturizing with skin-healthy oils and using a product that has an SPF to prevent sun damage.

4. Don’t Forget to Tone

Everyone knows about using a cleanser and a moisturizer, but most people skip an important part of their skincare routine: using a toner. After you’ve cleaned your skin and removed the daily dirt and grime, you’ll want to finish off the cleansing process by applying a toner.

Using a toner will make your skin soft and remove any underlying dirt that your cleaner missed. Store-bought toners are full of chemicals and can be quite expensive. Thankfully Mother Nature has gifted us with all sorts of natural toners that can be used on all skin types.

For normal and oily skin types, apple cider vinegar is an effective option. Mix a 1:1 ratio of vinegar and water and you’ve got a pH restoring toner. Green tea is another option that has proven to be useful in toning the skin. Green tea makes your skin feel soft and has inflammation-fighting properties. For an even stronger toner, add lavender or tea tree oil to the green tea.

Other natural toner options include:

  • Rose water
  • Chamomile
  • Lemon juice
  • Cucumber water
  • Witch hazel

After adding toner to your skincare routine, you’ll notice brighter and more even skin. You’re also less likely to have breakouts as your skin will be cleaner than ever before.

Know Your Skin

Everyone has their own skin type and no one knows your skin’s needs better than you. If you’re serious about improving the health and look of your skin, keep these 4 upgrades in mind. In just a few days, you’re sure to notice results.

Which natural skincare product are you most likely to use? Do you incorporate any of these options into your skincare routine already? Share your au natural tips with us.
