how to be healthyLiving a long and fruitful life is the goal of everyone. You hope to be healthy and as pain-free as possible during your lifetime. While unforeseen circumstances can create problems, there are things you can do, and not do, to improve your odds of feeling good. When you feel good, you will experience the inner-vibrancy essential for living a happy life.

The pain and discomfort caused by falling into poor health can be devastating. Therefore, you need to do everything you can to avoid unnecessary health issues. Here are the four health tips you can use to promote healthy living and help avoid the need for prescription drugs, maybe for your entire life.

Avoiding Drugs and Alcohol

It sounds simple enough, but for hundreds of millions of people around the world, a life without drugs and/or alcohol is easier said than done. Yet to live a healthy life, these substances ought to be avoided as much as possible. In fact, when it comes to some drugs like prescription opiates, it’s best to avoid them completely. Even slight opiate withdrawal symptoms, although non-lethal, can drive a person to continue using and turn a mild problem into a much larger one.

Additionally, what seems like a harmless drinking habit may, over time, morph into real risk for the heart, liver, and brain. Not to mention, binge drinking over the course of years can lead to someone appearing much older than they really are. In short, drugs and alcohol are not in the cards for a healthy life.

Seeing the Doctor

Many people choose to avoid the doctor, going only when they are obviously sick and have no alternative. Yet healthy living requires a proactive approach to keeping the body in good shape, and this calls for an annual examination by a licensed doctor. Fortunately for those either too busy, too shy, or too intimidated to make an appointment to see a doctor in person, the option to visit a doctor online exists these days. Simply use a smartphone or other camera-enabled device connected to the internet to have a doctor do a virtual checkup.

Failure to get examined on a regular basis can lead to serious issues not being addressed in a timely manner. Bone and joint problems, neurological disorders, and certain cancers start off as seemingly mild health issues, only to turn into major hurdles. Doctors are trained to detect these hidden problems, so why not let one have a look?

Eating Healthy

You’ve certainly heard the proverbial axiom, “we are what we eat“. Some people think dietitians and nutrition gurus try to drive home the idea of a healthy diet to the point of ad nauseam. However, the data proves this theory correct more often than not.

Health statistics prove the point with overwhelming statistical evidence that diet plays a huge role in your health. Poor diet is directly linked to numerous diseases and physical ailments.

The number one way to prevent succumbing to the need for prescription drugs is to do everything you can to avoid needing them in the first place. It starts with your diet. Certain types of foods, especially those loaded with preservatives are suspected as triggers that make you sick in the first place.

As you scan the nutritional information for different foods, you may throw your hands up in the air in total frustration. With so much information, how can you tell what products are healthy? The best way to begin is to gradually drift away from preservatives and unnatural food additives. Make a concerted effort to eat as natural as possible.

If you’re having trouble, formulating what you believe is a genuinely healthy diet, budget for a consultation with a dietitian. In the end, the cost of expert nutritional advice in the short-term can be far less the cost of the consequences if a bad diet causes you future health problems.

Raise Your Level of Physical Activity

Now, let’s say you’ve taken the advice of a qualified nutritionist, and made the determined effort to eat healthier. Some may argue that’s all you need to live a long and vibrant life. Well, hate to disappoint you, but the evidence indicates that eating right is just one part of the healthy living equation.

The second part is activity, or to some people that dreaded word; exercise. Many people mistakenly think that the only way to get the physical exercise you need is to spend hours upon hours in arduous exercise.

Yes, you do need to exert physical energy to generate the healthy benefits of fitness, but the local health club is not the only way to get physical activity. The bottom line in the fitness debate is all about cardio. It doesn’t necessarily take an expert aerobics instructor 4 days a week to attain fitness.

Budgeting for a membership at a fitness center, paying for special classes, or hiring a personal trainer, are all great ideas. However, there are other ways to reach your goal as well. You can join a hiking club, take up walking, or equip yourself with a home fitness room. The key focus must be to increase your activity level.

To see where you can improve, start with by talking it over with your personal doctor. Get a health assessment, and then make a commitment to boost your level of physical activity. This is the second part of the two-part strategy to stave off poor health and stay away from ever having a need for pharmaceuticals.

Maintaining a healthy diet and increasing your level of physical activity are the two most important parts of healthy living. There are other well-founded healthy tips for living a long and fruitful life, but these two formulate the foundation of every healthy model.

One key benefit both offer is helping to improve healing if you ever do become ill. When there is a foundation of good eating habits and regular exercise, people heal quicker and avoid devastating illnesses. When you can accomplish this, you can achieve prevent ever becoming an unwilling customer of the big pharmaceutical companies.
