cropped-yoga-1-1.jpegYour lifestyle has a direct effect on your health, so it’s important to make the right choices every single day. If you’re curious about the lifestyle habits that could be having a negative effect on your life, read on to see three of them. There are also two others that are healthier and could replace the bad ones that you leave behind.

Ignoring Your Oral Health

Your oral health is a big part of your overall health, so you should make sure to look after it. Do this by brushing and flossing your teeth three times a day and with proper form. With 42% of children ages two to 11 having had cavities in their primary teeth, it’s likely that many adults still carry around the results of such an occurrence from their childhoods. This makes it important to also visit a dentist regularly and follow their advice to minimize the risk of cavities, gingivitis, and other types of poor oral health.

Not Keeping Your Home Clean

A clean home is a sanctuary to which you can retreat after having a long day. It should reflect this by being clean and in a state that allows you to relax. This could involve resolving any issues that may be placing you at risk of suffering from allergies as well as discomfort while in the house. For instance, according to This Old House, 60% of homes in the United States have wet basements while 38% run the risk of developing mold in the basement. Make sure that your own home’s basement is properly treated regardless of whether it’s your leisure space.

Eating Unhealthy Meals

The third bad lifestyle habit that you should drop immediately to improve your health is eating unhealthy meals. If you find that you are surviving on takeout, junk food, and carbonated drinks, your health will thank you when you make a turnaround. Start to cook more at home to stay conscious of what goes into your body and how it will affect your energy and overall health. This can enable you to improve your health and set a great example for anyone who looks up to you.

Recycling

One healthy habit that you should take up is recycling and composting. This is something that not only the environment will benefit from but the community as well. You can start small and increase your efforts little by little so that you don’t get overwhelmed by making a major change. The average person, according to the United States Environmental Protection Agency, generates more than four pounds of garbage on a daily basis. This is an amount that adds up, so if you can reduce it and motivate the people in your close circles to reduce theirs as well, the difference will add up for sure. Organic waste can be effectively composted in your yard to avoid landfills.

New Hobbies

A second healthy habit that you can take up is to find a hobby that you enjoy working on and spend some time doing it. Apart from occupying your time positively, you’ll improve your skill at this hobby and you could even monetize it at some point in the future if you choose to do so. Working on something that you enjoy doing is a great way to lift your moods and boost your mental health. Exercising your mind as much as your body is an important thing in life.

Drop the first three habits and pick up the last two and this may be the best decision you make for your health and wellness. Don’t give up if you’re not able to do it all at one go because a change that will last often takes time to make.
