Why is Oral Health so Important?

Our mouths are constantly exposed to bacteria, which can cause a variety of problems if not properly cleaned and cared for. Oral health is incredibly important, as experts from Dr. Tosun Dental Clinic in Dubai explain, it impacts our overall health in a number of ways:

  • Poor oral health has been linked to heart disease, stroke, and other serious health conditions.
  • Oral health is essential for proper nutrition – teeth are necessary for chewing and digestion.
  • A healthy mouth helps us look and feel good about ourselves.
  • Proper oral hygiene helps prevent bad breath and tooth decay.

10 Dental Hygiene Tips for Healthy Teeth & Gums

Whether you’re a parent looking after your own kids or an adult who cares about their own oral hygiene, these are all important things to know. And if you need some extra motivation to get started then just remember, there’s never been a better time than now!

1. Brush your teeth at least twice a day

Brushing your teeth is one of the most important things you can do to maintain oral health. Dentists recommend brushing your teeth at least twice a day (morning and night) for two minutes each time. Be sure to use a toothbrush that’s suited to your own mouth size and bristles that are soft enough not to damage your gums.

2. Floss regularly

Flossing is another critical part of taking care of your teeth and gums. It helps remove plaque and bacteria from between your teeth and under the gum line, where a toothbrush can’t reach. Dentists generally recommend flossing once a day.

3. Use a fluoride toothpaste

Fluoride is a mineral that helps strengthen teeth and protect them from decay. Dentists generally recommend using toothpaste that contains fluoride, especially if you have braces or other dental work.

4. Avoid sugary foods and drinks

One of the leading causes of tooth decay is sugar. When we eat or drink something with sugar in it, the bacteria in our mouths feast on it and produce acids that can wear away at our teeth. It’s best to avoid sugary foods and drinks whenever possible, and especially between meals.

5. Rinse your mouth with water after eating

Another way to help protect your teeth against decay is to rinse your mouth with water after eating. This will help wash away any sugars or acids that may have built up.

6. Eat a healthy diet

A balanced, healthy diet is important for our overall health – and that includes our oral health too! Eating a variety of nutrient-rich foods will help keep your teeth and gums strong and healthy. Some good options include fruits, vegetables, lean protein, and whole grains.

7. Avoid smoking and chewing tobacco

Smoking and chewing tobacco are both major causes of gum disease and tooth decay. If you can’t quit smoking or tobacco products altogether, then at least try to cut back as much as possible.

8. See your dentist regularly

It’s important to see your dentist for regular checkups and cleanings, even if you think your teeth are healthy. Dentists can catch problems early on and help prevent them from becoming serious.

9. Use a mouthwash
