Why Being In Love Is Good For You

Everyone can agree that love (or being in love) is wonderful as it makes us feel good about ourselves. But did you know that being in love is actually good for you?

According to Maslow’s hierarchy of needs, love is a basic human need. Once one’s basic physiological needs are met (such as fresh air to breathe, water and food), a person needs love to thrive and grow. So, it’s no surprise that being in love has its health benefits.

Why is being in love good for you?

Love is a stressbuster

As well as being one of our basic human needs, spending time with loved ones helps reduce stress. When people feel securely attached, they feel less stressed. Therefore, by spending quality time with your loved ones or even just speaking to them over the phone you can reduce your stress levels.

Not only is being in love good for your mental health, it also comes with physical benefits. Being stressed can wreak havoc on the body and can cause everything from headaches, to heart problems and even diabetes and skin conditions. Therefore, being in love can have a big impact on your general health.

And it’s not just those in relationships that benefit from feeling loved. Love can come from anyone, whether that is a parent, child, life partner or otherwise.

If you want to show someone that you love them, a great way to do this is by buying them a special gift. There are loads of discount jewellery options available nowadays, so you can make someone feel loved without spending the earth.

It releases dopamine

Being in love causes chemical reactions in the brain which make us feel good about ourselves. The dopamine release makes us feel giddy, energetic and sometimes even euphoric – so it’s easy to see where the saying “drunk in love” comes from.

Even simply thinking about your loved ones is enough to trigger a dopamine release!

Being in love makes us want to take care of ourselves

Being loved by someone can also make us want to take care of ourselves. Couples that care for each other are more likely to encourage the other to take care of themselves. From going to see a doctor over something that seems minor, or just helping them through difficult times – being in love has a plethora of benefits.

It’s a natural painkiller

Whilst most people will agree that being in love can boost your mood, did you know it can actually act as a natural painkiller? A study from Stanford University found that love can provide effective pain relief similar to that of an OTC painkiller.

Love is a truly powerful force. Whether it’s coming from a family member, romantic partner, or friendship – love is a force to be reckoned with. Not only will it make you feel good, but it can also help you live longer – so why not go and show someone you love them?
