new york cityNew York City is in perpetual flux, with expensive new attractions, restaurants, and hotels. Whether the plan is to visit the hottest cocktail bars with world-renowned mixologists or shop at the best artisanal stores in up-and-coming neighborhoods, the city has something to offer every traveler, from incredible museums and art galleries to top restaurants. Accordingly, it helps to have a native’s perspective when exploring the unpredictable, charming, and vibrant city that incites envy among visitors and passion for the locals.

Getting Around the City

New York City is an incredible and charming destination for travelers, particularly with a little advance preparation. Big-city splendor blends with small-town charm amid towering skyscrapers and iconic landmarks, and the city offers a vibrant culture that permeates each distinctive borough and neighborhood. An insider-approved and curated list of great places to eat, explore, stay, and shop in each of the city’s distinct areas is always helpful, as are these top seven tips for seeing all the city has to offer.

Wander and explore. New York is the safest large city in the United States. The days when advising people not to venture into the Lower East Side or Alphabet City are over, just as long as common sense is apparent. In fact, even urban Manhattan is no longer off-limits. Most of the neighborhoods in the city have very few hills and are mapped on a grid system, making navigation incredibly simple.

Diversify cuisines. The diverse cuisines in the city make traveling to ethnic enclaves an excellent way to sample authentic, inexpensive, and delicious food. Most international cuisines offer astonishingly tasty deals, making it effortless to discover affordable and exceptional fare throughout the city. Another ideal suggestion is to expand the horizon by taking an escorted neighborhood food tour.

Take the train. The New York subway system first started running in 1904. However, the trains are surprisingly fast, well-marked, affordable, and often faster than cabs for traversing the city or traveling during the rush hours. Various websites provide schedules to help plan the best subway line that will reach a destination quickly, but routes undergo routine maintenance, especially on weekends.

Discover a music event. It is tough to be bored in New York City with all the world-class musicians playing in multiple venues, such as Radio City Music Hall, Carnegie Hall, traditional jazz bars, and rock clubs. Best of all, some of the concerts are free, particularly those held outside in the summer months.
Visit Broadway. Various free and discounted ticket offerings are available to extend significant savings on advance ticket purchases on select Broadway and Off-Broadway shows. If there is a specific Broadway show of interest, make sure to buy the tickets as far in advance as possible, but be prepared to pay full price.

Store luggage. The last thing anyone wants is to look like a tourist, especially in New York City. Storing luggage with a convenient City CoPilot luggage storage facility upon arrival or while touring the city can eliminate the need to haul bags and suitcases around the city. It also enables easy movement around town while offering a secure and handy alternative close to attractions for storing baggage. And be sure to check out the Grand Central Terminal hotel.

Shop small. Visiting a celebrated fashion capital of the world usually entails planning a healthy shopping budget. Although the large metropolitan meccas of New York have their charm, make sure to explore the intimate, trendy, and vintage boutiques featuring talented, unique, and local designers with items that available nowhere else in the world.

Don’t let the hectic sights and frenetic sounds intimidate you from experiencing the grandeur of the city. There are countless ideas for spending time in New York City. Just make sure to take a good look around before leaving, because the city will likely transform substantially before your next visit.

Embracing the Journey

Wandering through the concrete jungle, visitors can take in the neon lights flickering in Times Square at all hours, racing taxi cabs streaming down bustling blocks, and fast-paced pedestrians hurrying on their way to work, innovative cocktail bars, and new galleries. The chaotic corners and twinkling lights of New York City invite visitors to embrace every minute of their trip by creating a unique urban adventure and exploring every flourishing enclave.
