These days, families are beyond busy from packed school and sports schedules to being locked in to all sorts of technology, sometimes it’s easy to lose sight on living a healthy lifestyle. And that goes double for kids!
For parents who are juggling work and kids, it can be difficult to make healthy meals and engage in activities with your kids with the short amount of time available. But the health of your family and children is a priority to check out some of these simple tips to make sure your kids grow up strong and healthy!
Get kids in the kitchen – Not only is having a helper in the kitchen a time saver, it’s also a great way to teach kids a valuable life skill. A great way to spend time with your children on busy days, cooking with kids can be fun, educational and helps kids value the time and effort it takes to prepare a meal, getting in touch with food and also being a part of something that the whole family will enjoy. Plus they learn about healthy cooking, something that will come in super handy once they leave home.
Green garden – Learning about where food comes from and being able to cultivate in your own home is a great way for kids to appreciate healthy eating. Planting veggies, fruit and herbs in a home garden is a great way for kids to be a part of the process from start to finish, especially when they get to harvest fresh food and help in preparation of the meal. Kids her garden and cook are much less likely to choose unhealthy processed, convenience foods in the future.
Opt for activity – While it’s super fun to have family movie night, opt for family time to be active. From walks in the neighborhood to bike rides and hikes, choosing active activities will help promote movement while being lots of fun!
Keep up with routine check ups – Your kids are growing at light speed and even though they may seem “ok” it’s always important to take preventive measures. From regular dental check ups to yearly physicals at places such as Molina Healthcare, it is incredibly important to keep an eye on your child’s ever changing body in order to catch anything early that could be more difficult to treat down the line. Prevention is much easier (and more cost effective) than the cures and also teaches kids to take an active role in their health in the future.
Wind down and connect – Rest is crucial for children so making sure to set a time for technology shut downs in the evenings is important. Power down all devices, turn off the tv and read to your kids before bed so that the whole family has time to unplug and prepare for a healthy slumber. It’s also, another great way to connect with kids who are constantly on the go ; )
In this day and age, it’s tough to slow down but hopefully with these simple tips, you will be able to find fun ways to re-connect with your kids while setting them up for a lifelong healthy journey! 3 cheers for healthy kids and a healthy future for us all!
