If it’s been your life long dream of being a doctor and you’ve taken the time needed to get all of your schooling complete and now you’re looking to open your own office, congrats. The idea of opening a medical clinic under your ownership is exciting and new. There are a few things to consider when starting on your journey though. So here are some tips and strategies to help you get your idea off the ground and running in a positive direction.
Staying Engaged with Clients
Just like with any other business, customers need to know you care. How can you show them that you truly understand their individual plight? Stay engaged and keep in touch. Having solid patient engagement solutions can help set you and your business apart from the rest. Being able to follow up with the people who entrust you with their health, will create a bond between you and that client. Ultimately, with their satisfaction, it can boost your client base as word of mouth can really help your business. So do your best to show you care while they visit your office and even after they have left by following up with them via email, telephone or video, more on that later.
A Prescription Proposition
As a doctor, it is part of the job to prescribe clients with the medication they require to help them with pain after an injury. There does come a point where that trust can be problematic as there are those that abuse pain medication and they might come to you asking for more. So for what it’s worth, it would be in your best interest and the interest of your client if you monitor all prescriptions that you write, just so you can keep a record. It’s better to be safe on all accounts than be sorry down the line.
House Calls?
Do doctors really do this anymore? The simple answer is yes but maybe not how you might first think. With video technology improving all the time, it is possible to make a house call without ever having to leave the office. Having the proper video conferencing software and hardware in place will help you make this a reality. Plus, it might be easier for some patients to check in this way after they have visited you for an injury or illness. It’s just another way to help your business keep in contact and provide care.
Brick and Mortar Office
Usually, the main point of contact between you and your patients is through a brick and mortar location. A necessary part of the business indeed, and with it, comes varying overhead. Office supplies, medical equipment, seating, and office staff are just the tip of the ice burgh. Be sure to get all of your needs on a list, so you can cross off items as you’ve completed them. And be sure to pay special attention to your decor, as showcasing your specific affinity for art and design will go a long way when it comes to decorating your office space.
Staffing Needs
It was glossed over slightly previously but having the right staff in place will help you run a smooth operation. Between the nurse(s) to assist with patients and the receptionist to take calls, payments and schedule follow-ups, you need dependable personnel in place. Having staff members with pleasant demeanors that are knowledgeable and understanding of people’s needs will showcase your business in a great light. Since they are most likely to encounter patients first, having them provide a good experience will only help you retain clients and enjoy a prospering business.
These are just a few of the tips that will help you make sure that your clinic is a success. Did we miss anything? Let us know!
