healthy travelIf you’re a travel addict who is always in the search of their next adventure, then you may already know of the trials that come from staying on top of your health when away from home, be it for a matter of days to extended periods of time. It’s all too easy to overindulge when you’re away from your everyday routine and let’s face it- we all love to make the most of our all-inclusive buffet and sample every local delicacy going when taking in everything that a new place has on offer. You will most probably also know that after a while you may not end up feeling too hot after eating one too many tacos or hourly ice-creams, no? If you’re looking to keep yourself from feeling less bloated and more energised when jet-setting around the world, then let our following steps for maintaining your health and happiness while away on your next big adventure!

Pack Some Snacks

Whether you’re at the airport, in the local town centre or lounging by the pool, the temptation to grab a quick snack is seemingly unavoidable. Skipping unhealthy food options can go a long way in minimising that awful bloated feeling and reduce your sugar intake which could save you from feeling sluggish and lacking in energy. From fruit and granola bars, to nuts and oatmeal bites, there are a wide range of snacks that will work wonders for your gut and also won’t be confiscated at security.

Maintain Your Fruit and Veg Intake

As much as we would like to use it as one, neglecting your fruit and veg intake because you are on holiday is not an excuse. Be sure to keep your breakfasts fruit filled and always try to have a side-salad with your lunches and dinners. This will ensure you are always on top of keeping your nutrient levels high, alongside being able to eat other delicious treats too!

Move, Move, Move

It is unlikely that you will ever go on a trip that doesn’t require some form of movement. From walking around town shopping to swimming and going to the gym, physical exercise is unavoidable now days. Keeping as active as possible is one of the simplest ways you can keep yourself healthy as it helps work off any rich meals you may have eaten and raises your energy levels through endorphin rushes.

Renew Your E111

Renewing an E111 card has to be one of the easiest ways of ensuring your stay healthy then travelling throughout Europe and is ideal to have alongside maintaining the aforementioned dietary tips. Your E111 card will entitle you to free or highly reduced healthcare, should you require it, when not in the UK. While we hope our travels will be straightforward and devoid of any ill-health, it’s always best to take precautionary methods when it comes to something as important as our wellbeing.

Remember that a vacation is just that- a time to let yourself relax and try new things! While you should always try to look after yourself and not eat and drink until you explode, you can certainly treat yourself to an extra scoop of ice cream or cocktail than you normally would! Staying sensible and healthy shouldn’t mean you sacrifice a little spontaneity and exciting delicacies!
